You're gonna love the EFI car Dan. The only carby vehicles I have are a Harley, a Katana, and an 86 B2000 and they are the most temperamental ones in the fleet.
I was raised working on both carbs and EFI cars but I'm definitely biased towards EFI.

Hmmmm....1859, 1921, 1960, and 1989. I think I'll take my chances
If you're that worried about such things then shielding is your friend.
Also, carb Festies have an ECM and electrical system.Last edited by Zanzer; 10-21-2013, 01:44 PM.

Well, in my mind, there are pros and cons to both efi and carb. A properly adjusted Weber 32/36, will start just at the touch of the key.
Its really pretty much the same. You are looking for the proper AF mix on both. Change injectors, or change jets.
A lot of younger peeps here have grown up with efi, so thats what they know. I grew up with carbs, so thats what I knew growing up, but with the advent of efi, I had to learn some about it. I have had several non-festy cars that were efi, have some now
The problem with carbs is most peeps dont know how to adjust one.
Holley carbs have always been picky, and need the bowl fuel level to be exactly right, to run right, among other things, and is usually always changing, so needs adjusted all the time.
Webers are a simple design and run well, with no, to little maintence. Simplicity is the key to a carb and why the weber was found on every VW buggy i've seen.
The monitoring of the engine by the sensors for efi make it efficient, and can squeeze the most power and mpg's out of an engine.
The carb can do the same with tuning, but is a compromise to an extent, as it cant be adjusted on the fly as with efi.
But once you know how to adjust a carb, it is very simple.
I'll take both!

As pointed out, there is electrical in them, too.
At least there is a whole lot less to shield!!!!Last edited by drddan; 10-22-2013, 03:35 AM.Dan

Agree with Dan. The only thing Webers can't do is automatically adjust for altitude.Last edited by TominMO; 10-22-2013, 07:51 AM.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

Thought it was time for an update:
I finally have the GL on the road. Been driving it for a bit, got it all legal last week! Some of you may have seen a thread I started about the lifter tapping really loud on start up.
Fixed that with half quart of ATF poured into the crankcase. After a minute the lifter quieted! I gave it an oil change after that and drove it. I was apprehensive about the $100 Aspire engine I had bought for it. I changed all seals on it, painted it, and installed it, after a lot of restoring of the front suspension and a few other issues I found along the way.
Well, I am happy to announce that the engine is running GREAT! It doesn't smoke at all, didn't even smoke on start up. Engine is quiet and has good power. Drove it all weekend ... no problems except the alt belt stretched and started slipping sat night. Tightened it up, all good!
So here is the engine as it sits in the bay. I couldn't help but paint the VC as I did on the B6 in my red 88!

Thanks guys!
I still have a few mods I want to do. I have an escort console to put in. It had an escort dome light in it when I bought it. Been trying to find Nissan Sentra wipers to put on, but seems to be hard to find any lately. I like the aftermarket steering wheel I have in the red 88, so I may put one on the 92 also. It needs new tires in the back too!
All in due time. I am just enjoying it being on the road right now!Dan
