Yeah, I've looked into it, but it's not that impressive of a drive line for the money. Also, the time to deal with all the idiosyncrasies of modern integrated chassis/engine controls is a big factor.
A simple b6t will make the same power with less hassle and much less expense. The ST swap would be a sweet package when dialed in though, the fuel economy and power would be excellent.

Don't know if this has been mentioned already.

South American festivas are mostly rebadged Saipa cars.
      Saipa is made in Iran.
American has trade restrictions with Iran so registering one in the USA would prove impossible.

Only thing you could do is strip it, Import it as spare parts, find a dead rusted festiva shell, swap numbers, and take it to an inspection station that won't notice the 2 extra doors

          I don't think you'd get in trouble.
It's just bringing it through the border that could prove difficult.

Point is that you should research and get some info. There probably is a way to get it through.

It isn't hard. No tunnels or smuggling required. People register their vehicles here from Mexico regularly.
Mexico is not South America, hell it's not even central America. It's the same continent as us, good ol' North America. They have a lot of Ford dealerships there and I'm sure they sold the 4 door Festiva that was probably imported from Korea. We didn't get them because of our crash standards, but Mexico doesn't step on it's market like our government does, so they probably got them. Also, small, cheap cars sell well there. I've owned cars with Mexican and Canadian VIN numbers here in AZ and I've registered them without problems.

I had to double check, and just to clarify.
Anything pre 2001 was made by Kia.
                  Post 2001 made by Saipa.

I had a look at Mexican eBay and all the cars they had for sale were from the 80's
Couldn't find any 4 doors though

I envy you guys though, at least there are enough of you around to get together once in awhile. If I won lotto one day I'd have mine shipped over and do a cruise holiday across the states meeting everyone, that would be awesome
