Okay so this morning I heard a snap and my clutch pedal didn't come back up. I had to leave my car at my school. It looks like everything is still in tact but the cable at the top of the pedal is loose, any thoughts on what I should do?

I'm guessing the cable snapped, is the cable what keeps the clutch pedal up? The spring in that picture has been broken since I have had the car. I didnt look for very long but the only thing that seemed wrong was the cable was loose, still attached tho.92 Festiva L - bp & hydro g, advanced coilovers, aspire brake swapped

The return spring and pressure plate are what bring the pedal back up, and reading above tells me that the pressure plate has been doing all the work lately. Replacing the cable with pieces from Lowe's or HD can be done in a pinch.Trees aren't kind to me...

yeah the pressure plate has been doing all the work for over two years!! Is it a bad thing that the pressure plate is doing all the work?
Would this be a silly thing to not do myself? School just started this week, I need to be able to drive! I was thinking about just renting a tow dolly and taking my car to a shop as it needs an inspection anyways.
Has this happened to anyone else before?92 Festiva L - bp & hydro g, advanced coilovers, aspire brake swapped

Can you work the clutch lever arm with a long prybar engine off ?With the car in gear have someone push on the car while you release the clutch with the prybar if you can manually work the clutch from under the hood it is almost certainly the cable which I would repair/replace in the parking lot If you need to replace the clutch you are going to need to move the car.FWIW.
I own a tow dolly but made a festiva towbar the towbar is so much more handy.Mine is totally homemade for probably less than 50.00 hooks to the front tow hooks and anyone with decent fab skills can whip one up in an hour.{I also think A VW super beetle tow bar would work with some minor modifications although I have not tried this} If you are interested I will take a pic and post it to your post with basic build instructions but won't have time until mon/tuesday.Last edited by ricko1966; 08-26-2017, 11:06 PM.30 + Vehicle projects right now.7 Festiva/Mazda 10 GM IDK how many others, hope that helps explain all the stupid questions/shortcuts/interchanges etc. trying to liquidate so I concentrate on the good ones. Goal finish 1 amonth using as much stuff as I already have accumulated.

I accidentally tried to start it when I was in first gear after this happened and my car started to lunge forward a little bit before I immediately cut it off. I don't know if that has anything to do with what you said haha. I am almost certain this problem is not the clutch itself but the cable.
As for the tow bar, I would love to see that!92 Festiva L - bp & hydro g, advanced coilovers, aspire brake swapped

you should be able to tell by looking if it's the cable or not, but it most likely is. You can get a new one on Rock auto for $15 - dunno how much they cost locally. A festy clutch cable is working pretty hard on a G series clutch, I haven't had one break yet but I do have a spare on hand!
Edit: lurching forward when starting just means that the clutch is still engaged.Last edited by skeeters_keeper; 08-27-2017, 06:23 AM.~Nate

If the nut you tightened is on the tranny end of the cable and it wasn't doing anything, perhaps the cable was twisting inside of the sheath? You need to hold the cable while you tighten the nut. If not it twists the cable and that's most likely why it broke.~Nate

Shadetree reminded me that I have a hydro g series with the cable conversion from the festiva store. So not exactly a festy cable but you are too kind man! I still have that lca I ordered before you gave me one that I have to give to you some time!
I am going today at some point to finally check this out so I can confirm if the cable is snapped or not. the nut I was talking about was on the clutch pedal and in the video i posted you can see my ratchet on the nut if you really wanna see it! haha92 Festiva L - bp & hydro g, advanced coilovers, aspire brake swapped

So it looks like the cable isnt broken, or at least I hope not, it seems to be just disconnected. will post pics tomorrow but I couldnt figure out exactly how to reconnect it with my eyes.92 Festiva L - bp & hydro g, advanced coilovers, aspire brake swapped

That's part of the continuous cable. Crimped on I believe. Not sure if it's a stock festy cable in the kit or not, may need to ask Rick or Ben.
This is a pic of the cable as it comes from the festiva store:
