Well i found out today that my VAF doesnt like being on its side. After i put in the cone filter i put it on its side to fit and it started to idle worse and worse. It drove fine just bad idle (jumping and falling all over) i took the VAF out and blew in it on its side i noticed the little door wouldnt close completely all the time. Long story short, fliped it back and it runs fine!.

yes, VAFs are orientation-sensative. They need to be mounted flat to ensure proper operation, mainly at low rpm (when airflow is weakest)Jim DeAngelis

Mine is mounted on it's side. It was that way when I bought it. I've put about 22,000 miles on it with no problems......1986 Comp Prep SVO Mustang(1 of 83) Four cylinder turbo! (Think first Fox body "R" model!)
