        no theres a screw from the back and a piece of metal that holds the shiter in place by my luck the metal had rotted out i had this happen on my 88 plus i've had the shift rail snap which i re welded but looking for a new one....

          On my Mazda 121 the shifter was dropped down, but you can fix that easily. I just removed the plastic holding the rubber "boot" on it (mind you, it takes a bit of time to put the boot perfectly afterwards, but that's just cosmetic) and then I simply pulled the shifter up. There is a rubber bushing that pops back in place when you pull the shifter up. If it's not too worn it will stay in place until someone sits on the shifter! :shock: (mistakenly or intentionally?)
