On my 93 Automatic, when I turn off the engine something is continuing to run. When I listen for it and put my ear near the throttle body thats where it sounds like its coming from. Almost sounds like a tiny fan running. Any ideas?

I beleive on those fuel injected models there is a squirrel inside a cage with a wheel in it. The squirrels they use are often not too bright or not well trained. So yours could keep running after you turn off the ignition.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.

Mine was...
When the key is in the on position, there is a whirring sound, like a little fan.
Move the key back one spot to the accessory position, and it stops.
Always did that.Joey Richard Jr.

It runs fine all be it a little rich. Im gonna give it a full tune up. Is it possible that it could be the TPS?
Well I disconnected that. Still had the noise.
I havent checked the fuel lines. I didnt think of that because its running good. Like I said it seems a bit rich. But who knows when it was tuned up last.Last edited by MONSOON; 10-04-2008, 07:37 PM.Search Master - Honorary Member of Midwest Festiva Inc., Gulf Coast Chapter

I would check a couple of things:
....the IAC conected tot he intake manifold near the starter....should not be running but disconnecting will prove such.
...the fuel pump may be running and the sound you hear is fuel passing thru the regulator...best to disconnect the fuel pump relay.
...hot water may be passing thru either the heater lines or the IAC lines...pinch the lines to see if you can eliminate the noise or change the pitch of the noise.
...open up - disconnect the PCV valve and see if the pitch of the sound changes.
Best of luck!!!Joe Lutz

Hmmm, I noticed this on my B6 tonight as well Monsoon. Just as you were describing, it came from the upper intake/throttle body area. Sounded like a tiny fan running in there. I think mine is running a tad rich right now just as yours is.90 Festiva with Brand new B3, 5spd

One thing you can do to narrow down where the sound/vibrations are coming from, is to take a LONG screwdriver and place in on different parts of the engine and listen to the handle, sometimes you can also feel the vibrations. this might not work for some situations, but it's something to try that might help. Happy hunting!89' Maroon and black Festiva LX with a sunroof. :alien:
