Yes there is a drain plug on these tranny's (some autos don't have drain plugs, most do)
It's a fairly large plug, located along the tranny support crossmember. Prettty sure if you lie on your stomach and look under the car you'll see it on the righthand side....1990 Festiva

Isnt it standard practice that if youre going to drain the fluid in the tranny that you also change the filter? I thought thats why they "didnt" have a drain plug.Search Master - Honorary Member of Midwest Festiva Inc., Gulf Coast Chapter

not all auto trans' have a filter. Some, like the Festy, just have a screen. Most auto do not have a drain plug, because the specified fluid change interval is either significant (60k miles or so), or there is no specified change interval. The Festy/Aspire F3A trans uses plain old Mercon/Dexron III. Drain and fill uses about 3.5 quarts.Jim DeAngelis

Is it advisable to drop the pan and clean that screen out periodically?Search Master - Honorary Member of Midwest Festiva Inc., Gulf Coast Chapter

YES!! esepcially if you can't tell if there's debris when using the drain plug. Pulling the pan will give you a better picture of how the trans is wearing.Trees aren't kind to me...
