  • Heat from dash vents

Has any one ever modified the doors or anything to make heat come out of the dash vents ? Can it be done ?

I've looked at the plenum several times. No, not easily. It would require a completely different plenum design.

Defrost forces all the heat out of the window vents (top of dash) which pretty much heats the upper area. You feel the heat on your face which fools you into believing you are warm.

hate to say this, but the answer is:

          NO

unless you can rig a flame thrower from your vents, but thats a different forum

it's the same plenum. AC just adds an evaporator to the inlet side of the plenum, right behind the glove box.

Heres a thought... how about taking a AC evap case and installing another heater core in it!

you'd never be able to shut off the heat!!! You'd have full heat all the time!

solenoid valve in the coolant line...

Another plus would be that (I assume, never seen an evap case) there would be room for a much bigger heater core.

gate valves don't stop all heat transfer. Ask owners of Lincoln Aviators...

the evap cases are fairly small. Evap is about the same size as the heater core.

Why? Is it just because of cheep factory valves not completely stopping coolant flow?

It would be better than nothing... and it would mean... DASH HEAT!!!!
It would be worth the effort up here.

coolant on either side of the valve, in very close proximity. Heat still transfers.

It might be beneficial in the Great White North! I don't really miss dash heat down here in Merry-land...
