I've used a battery terminal puller before for stuff like that, just make sure you leave the nut on(loose of course) so you dont damage the threads.

I'm gonna' try this as a last resort. That's probably the best thing to do not to break anything.

I have used channel locks to kinda squeeze up the arm. Place one edge under the wiper arm and the other on top of the stud and squeeze.

Now why didn't I think of that?

I'd say by the responses here, this must be a common problem.

It is a common problem. Yours sounds uncommon though. You still ain't got it off? OK, I see the good advice you got is good: take hold of arm and pull/wiggle/move up&down&side2side. If for some reason that don't work(make sure nut is off or up aways), then I got a suggestion. Wrap a poly rope around the "base" of the arm then attach it to a cherry picker.....follow me?

I don't like the wiggle and pull on the arm method because there has been some issues with the inner cowl ripping where the arm is attached to the car. This is diffecult to fix when the inner panel tears.

like what happened to my green festiva, but i don't know what caused it to "rip" i think it just rotted away

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

That is the primary specific reason I didn't want to get rough with it.

I'm not in a hurry. I'll try to channel lock deal tommorrow. Then I had a thought of just leaving the nut loose and running the wipers in the rain and see if that would pop them loose.

Was at Autozone today for a valve cover gasket and saw the battery terminal puller $5.
Think it might do the job and cheap,
