Great! Good to know. I'll have to try it.

Yep, I just go by feel, I've also done it by unhooking the cable from the trans, and that does make things alot easier.

So basically the only thing that it COULD be is a loose plug or a bad gauge? My car is a 1989 base model L and it has NO harnesses for anything extra (mirrors, rear defrost, rear wiper, etc...) I am wondering if that has something to do with it. Everything else on the gauge works, even the headlight "buzzer" which I never had before. Thanks for the answers, and any other ideas are appreciated.

^^ Yeah you have to have lanky skinny arms. I can do it as well

And most likely yes something is not plugged in all the way, or you have a break in the curcuit board or a loose/damaged tach signal wire. Lime green in color with a dark green stripe left side plug of the cluster.

Would that be possible to test by probing it with an aftermarket tach and no cluster hooked up at all?

Thanks for the tip on the speedo cable. I pulled it out no problem without unbolting it from the trans. again. FYI, upon further investigation, I discovered that my plug does not even have a wire and pin in the tach position. I will have to run a new one to the plug. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the responses BTW.

Got it in and working. Not difficult at all. One wire, and some good old fashioned "hill billy" engineering, and it works like a dream. If you want to see some pictures, I have them on photobucket.

Thanks again everyone for the responses...

So what your trying to tell us is that you used buttend connectors, some old speaker wire, and some zip ties to get your tach cluster up to "par"!!

                    STELLAR!!

Well, since the wire wasn't there like everyone told me it was, yes, that's what I had to do. If you had a better option, you should have added your 2 cents in before, when I asked!

It seems to me like he was being "smart". If you were not trying to sound like a jerk, sorry, but I have seen some posts on here where people are just slamming other people, and I don't appreciate it.
