I took a picture but i do not know how to post it.
There is a hose on the cowl front, that runs between a switch behind the right strut tower to another switch, just left of center of the cowl front. The hose joining the two has a white "T" spliced in. The white "T" is fed by a black hose with white dashes on it. That hose goes down to the base of the carburetor as a vacuum source. It seems to run parralell with another hose. If that hose is missing or hanging loose, I don't know if it would leak vacuum or not at idle, depending on whether it is venturi or manifold vacuum. It would definitely leak vacuum when you cracked the throttle. In any case, you may have found your problem.

Where the hose plugs into the bottom of the carb, it's hard to see. You'll probably need a good light and have to stand on your head.

Thanks for the info but i have no idea what a cowl front is. Could you please specify? Also I know when i put my finger over the hole, it sucked at it. So i covered it with tape for the time being.

The lawyers won't let you say "firewall" anymore.

Do you still have a hesitation with the tape over the hose? If you have vacuum on the hose, it sounds like it's hooked to the carb. Now, look up on the firewall for those two switches. The one on the left side is just inboard of the gang of three switches that have hoses running to the air cleaner.

yes it still hesitates. I looked everywhere and could not find a place to connect this to. I dont know where else to look. My first curiousity is what should it be connected to ? I added a photo to my profile if you want to see what i am talking about. It seems like the hose comes out from the carb and then "y"'s

Your picture looks like it's an open nipple on the base of the carburetor? "Where is the "T"?

Mike, I think you're looking at the bottom of the "T". Hoses in and out of the top of the "T", base is open.

Clintrino, ^^ Is that the T we are looking at? Looks like what you've got open should go to the gang connection at the MAP sensor.

wow i believe you may be correct I will check tomorrow morning when i have some light. Also since the last time i played with my car and covered that open nipple my check engine light has come on and off constantly....

^^ Well, that would stand to reason, since while you are completing the vac. by plugging that nipple, you are also cutting off the MAP sensor, which is going to make the ECU think there's a problem, so the check engine light, I would think, would be either on or flashing.

Dunno. My new one, thankfully, doesn't have all that spider web of hoses and sensors.

Kind of wondering if when there's no vac. the system doesn't actually get enough information back to decide if there's a problem or not. With vac, but sensors not in play, maybe it gets enough feedback to decide there is a problem. Either way, hopefully when you get everything hooked back up correctly, both the hesitation and the engine light flashing will be a thing of the past. Hoping for the best!

So i reviewed the diagram you provided and checked on my car. I followed the vacuum line that starts from the three "sensors" (or whatever they are), and it seemed like they were connected to something. hmmmmm

Can someone take some photos of their vacuum lines (perferrably 89 festiva L compatable) and provide me with some visuals. It would be much appreciated.

So i have added 2 more photos to my profile so you can have a visual on the open-ended vacuum hose/nipple. I uncovered it and i must admit, the car seems not to run as rough as it did when i had it covered up with tape. When i cover it up the engine acts like it would when you spray carb cleaner down it.

Anyways, if you have any idea where this should be connect to, please let me know. In reference to the vacuum drawing posted earlier (like 6 posts ago), it was not that vacuum line. This ssomething that is connect to the carb and splits off. Any help would be greatly appreciated
