  • Anyone have pics of Manual trans. shift linkage "fixes"

Hey all-I have been searching around on here for fixes for my linkage bushing issues. I have found some awesome info and advice but I was wondering if anyone has, or could take, any pictures of their solutions to this issue? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

What parts do you need pictures of? I have a transaxle/shift setup sitting on the floor at the shop as we speak, and can take pictures of any specific part you have questions about on Monday.

I really don't know-the whole thing I guess-lol. I haven't really gotten under there to see exactly what is bad but since I don't really enjoy crawling under cars I'd like to replace everything I can while I am there.

ck...I am just around the corner from you....welcome to the site. You can get bushings that will help the issue at Autozone or advanced....they are a mixed pack of door hinge bushings....there are some in there that are close and will help alot.

or get a $.99 ($10 after shipping) e-bay civic short shifter and then you'll actually have a sealed bearing instead of that bushing crap.

Speaking of which, I need to order two more of those shifters tomorrow... one for the B6t car and one for another B6 car.

Thanks for all of the help and advice guys but once I got under the car I found that the bushings are not my problem. I grabbed the shift rod and it easily slid in and out of the tranny. So it would seem that I am yet another victim of the dreaded shift gate phenomenon. So it looks like there may be a new post on the for sale section of the board soon as I don't really have the space, tools, or honestly the knowledge to do a tranny swap or to take it apart and get the shift gate welded/replaced. Kinda sucks-so many years without a Festiva and I find one and it doesn't like me

Just curious how many miles on your Festiva that this happened. I hadnt heard of shift gate problem. I will say though, about 4 years ago I replaced clutch in mine, just disconnected everything with car blocked up and with engine supported with another block. Didnt even need a hoist, just physically lifted tranny out of car and put it back in place same way. I am no weight lifter, it was heavy but doable without giving oneself a hernia. Probably safer with a hoist. Just saying, removing and replacing transaxle isnt rocket science nor does it require more than a metric socket set and a jack. No idea how complicated removing/replacing shift gate is, but these transaxles arent expensive to just buy another. Also not sure if you can use transaxle out of Mazda 323 or not, they seem more plentiful in junkyards. Junkyards around here used to crush Festivas on sight without even trying to sell parts. Very annoying.

Sadly this car only has 92k miles on it. I've read that these trannies arent really all that durable so I figure the original owner didnt drive it much but when he did he beat the crap out of the tranny.

I've never had durability issues with mine. Got 263500 before any trans issues (suspect shifter fork). Only replaced the clutch once. @155k. I bought the car brand new in May 1990. It never once whined, roared or made a sound. Still don't. It's stuck in 4th gear. It has been replaced. (I drove it to the shop about 5 miles through town in 4th gear). I will disassemble it and find out what's wrong with it when I have more time.
