Maybe you could do whatever it takes to make the light come on and then immediately turn the ignition off and coast to the side of the road, where you can ground the connector and read the code.

If the problem is intermittent, perhaps the engine thinks the problem is fixed, turns off the light, and cancels the error reporting routine.

Pure speculation on my part.

What is funny I was thinking about trying this. It only comes on after it warms up. And it bucks like crazy.

My car also has a check engine light....i'm carbed and have no idea what it could be. I'm guessing it's emissions related or maybe something to do with my choke not working.

You can check a Carb car also. With the ignition key on(engine not running) You ground the one-pin connector by the power brake booster. Then connect the positive lead of an analog voltmeter to terminal 6(grenn/red wire) located under the dash and connect the negative lead to a ground and count the sweeps of the voltmeter.
