I need help on an A/C wiring problem. I do not have an ECA.
What did ECA pin 3B do to control the A/C compressor clutch?

I am guessing, under wide open throttle, it provided an easier path to ground so that the compressor clutch disengaged?
    Does anyone know?
Can I just ignore this wire?
My finger can just push the A/C button off to disengage the clutch and give me more power. It might take a second or two longer than the ECA if it is unexpected.

It lets the computer know that power has been applied to the clutch. Your AC system with 3 relays, a high pressure cut out switch, a thermostat, an accelerator switch, and an AC control amplifier is a stand alone system. The computer just jacks the idle speed with that info. Later years the computer would out put voltage to this terminal when the key was turned to off to help kill the engine and prevent dieseling but I am pretty sure these older ones just use this as an input only. If the accelerator switch is still working it cuts the clutch above 80% or so throttle opening. Not a computer function.

That is very informative. I need to run a wire from the EFE heater relay, which I will use for idle up to the BL/Y terminal on the female connector where the A/C switch plugs into. I presume, based on what you are saying, that harness is part of the stand alone A/C harness. Correct?

Separate question. I can't remember if I asked this before, but the power steering pump has a single electrical connector. Does it ground or open on high pressure? If I were a guessing man, I would guess ground on high. Which means I need another relay?

        I found this:

        Pressure Switch Operation

        • The power steering pressure switch has a spring-loaded diaphragm that is normally open when no pressure is applied to counteract the spring pressure. Every time the wheel is turned, high pressure builds in the line to the steering gear thereby counteracting the spring pressure and closing the switch. The computer provides power to the switch. When the switch closes it provides a ground for the computer, which is a signal of increased load.

What is the purpose of the main relay? On the 89 wiring diagrams, it is listed as Auto Only (Inj). If I add an electric fuel pump relay, do I also need to add a main relay?

According to the 89 wiring diagram It looks like the EGI fusible link power goes to the main relay to energize the VAF, which I don't have. Were all 89 Autos fuel injected? I thought a few members had carbed autos.

The 92 Electrical & Vacuum trouble shooting manual, shows a different purpose. When the Ignition switch is turned, the ENGINE circuit (BK/W) becomes live and energizes the main relay. The main relay closes and allows power from the EGI circuit (W/BL) to flow to the Fuel pump relay (Y/BK).

I don't know why the main relay is hung way out in the engine compartment when the fuel pump relay is under the dash. I will trash the EFE heater relay and rewire to the main relay. In it's place, I will use light duty H300 relays for A/C and P/S idle up. The factory relay tree is now completely full.

From what I understand the main relay basically energizes everything when you turn the key on, otherwise you would have power in off position like the acc position. I cut it out of my aspires harness thinking it was the fuel pump relay and had to splice it back in! There's a black wire comming off it in an aspire that has a junction with two wires, which are trigger wires/common/not hot...one.goes to FP relay the other goes to...yea sorry I forgot Haha.. good luck!

The one you say goes to the VAF is probably your fuel pump.

zoom, black wire is almost always a ground wire. Like I said before, Mazda splices to multiple grounds, just in case one goes bad. That was the color of the fourth wire which I didn't mention.
I am installing wiring to the electric fuel pump. There was no room for the mechanical pump. The fuel pump relay grounds through the VAF. I am going to temporarily cheat and ground it directly, since I don't have a VAF.
The one thing I have noticed is the redundancy and complexity of the wiring harnesses. I am unsure if they are spliced just to fill up every hole in the engine bay connectors, or not. I have opened them all up and am tracing every wire. I do not remove any circuit unless I test it first through all the factory splices. I always pop out the terminals instead of cutting the wire. It sure is a lot easier to reinstall, if necessary.

I have already removed a dozen circuits because I have no ECA.

I need to know from anyone if the dome light dims from the dimmer switch?
Or, is it just supposed to be full on / full off? I presume anything that isn't wired R/GN and R/W and allowed to ground through the rheostat in the dimmer switch, doesn't dim. Do most cars have their dome lights dim? I asked this question while wiring the tiny bulb on my cigar lighter. It's got a blue cover over the bulb. Does anyone know where I can get an orange cover for the tiny bulb?

Just checked my 90 Lplus... dimmer does not dim the dome light.

Also my understanding is that only the 89 automatics were EFI.
Also my understanding is that manual 5 speed was available as an option in 89.
Don't know if EFI was also available as an option in 89 for 5 speeds.
Were they different options in Canada in 89?

Sorry don't have an orange cover, I may have a green cover..seems like I saved some one time.

Yes, I believe you are correct. That means to get "the effect", another automatic dimmer switch would have to be installed where the connector for the wire that runs up the A-pillar is located under the dash on the left side. That also means that separate wiring is in order for the vanity visors not to dim out as well. Just great.

Hello. I need to know what is the standard current draw for the parking lights. R/GR
I need to know if it is 10 amps or more. If so, I will have to add another relay for parking light flash using a negative trigger. I hope not.

that's easy, but it really depends on what bulbs you use (168, 194, LED). take their voltage devided by the rated wattage to get the amp draw for each bulb. (charging voltage/1.7w = xA) then its just additive for each bulb, PLUS a little bit for harness loss.

                          or use an amp probe....

What lights come on when you put your parking lights on?
Can someone please put their parking lights on and walk around their Festiva?
I need to add up the bulb amps. I believe the 1156 bulbs are 2.1 amps each.
Thanks for anyone who can assist.

Also, does anyone know, if 89 Festivas had a parking lamp relay?
I know 91 had a parking lamp relay where the windshield washer tank was located on an 89.

The marker lights beside the head lights in front (2) and two bulbs in each tail light (4) for a total of 6.

Know where the a parking relay would be and how it would be marked?

Would that be two big bulbs in the tail light or a big and a small?
What's lit? The orange and red in the back? or just the red?

According tp the 91 EVTM, the parking lamp relay is screwed to the front inside right fender, near the right headlamp, beside a set of ground wires.
