bhazard don't know of what he speaks.... all festys are OBD-1.

first thing to check is to see if your camshaft rotates by looking in the oil fill hole, then itf it rotates, check to see if you have spark to the distributor cap from the coil. if you have spark, verify your cam timing and belt condition by pulling the timing belt cover (4 10mm bolts). if you DON'T have spark, check that your coil has power to it and then verify that the coil windings are good (continuity test via a multi-meter).

if the coil tests good and you have power to it and the timing belt is in good shape and the cam timing is correct, then i would suspect that the ignition control modual in the distro has gone bad. the last thing to check then would be to pull the air filter lid off and have someone hit the gas for you as you look down the barrel, you should see a sharp stream of fuel flowing into the half closest to you. if you dont see/smell fuel, check that the pump is working (pull the line going to the carb and crank the engine. have hose going into a cup to capture the fuel, this keeps the mess low and allows you to monitor the fuel flow.

do it in the order i gave you and you should easily find the problem.

The truck only gets 12mpg? My dad had a 03 f350 6.0 diesel and it got about 18 lifted up on 39 inch tires.7.3's are supposed to get good mileage I thought, I almost bought one about a month ago

88 Festy L (The White Thunder)
91 L came and gone, owned only 2 days

Sorry but I'm on the East Coast so I'm afraid I can't be of much help
If a hammer doesn't fix it you have an electrical problem

i concure! the 7.3 needs a better turbo to start, but once you get a tune on it, you should gain power AND milage. i've seen 20+mpg 7.3s and they'll get mid teens when hauling.

lol.. so should i get the code?

thank you so much. now please don't laugh... but i'm assuming that i should be doing something to make the camshaft rotate while looking in the oil fill hole?

i know. and i'm sorry. but i have to fix it.

don't worry about the code so much as the code may give you a false positive. as for the cam rotation, have someone crank while you watch, nothing's going to fly out at you.

right now i can't afford to have someone fix my clown car, let alone drive or tune up the beast..

                      the camshaft rotates.

now i need to know how to tell if there's spark to the distributor cap from the coil?

i talked to a friend who will lend me tools so i guess the next step for me is i need to know what to borrow.

                      i apologize for being a pain. :-|

Not a pain at all, everyone here loves to help out eachother. Although I cant tell you how to figure out if you're getting spark, someone else will chime in I'm sure

While not the safest way... you can pull the coil wire out of the top of the distributor and hold the end of the wire about a 1/8th of an inch or so from a bolt head or spot on the engine thats grounded, then have someone crank the car over and see if a spark jumps the gap. Be sure to hold way back on the wire and you may want to wear some heavy gloves. It'll bite ya if you ain't careful

Or you can stick a screwdriver in the cap and hold the wire close to the screwdriver to see if it jumps.
