nope, if you have spark, the dizzy is good. what you SHOULD do though is verify that the rotor under the dizzy cap is pointed at the #1 plug wire when the engine is at TDC (i say this because the rotor can go on the dizzy in 3 positions).

if you have fuel and spark, we know you have air, so the last thing would be compression (pretty sure you have that too). car should run so it's something simple that's keeping that from happening.

From what I've heard thus far, I would say the timing belt jumped a tooth or two, the distributor fell out of alignment, or the fuel pump/ fuel pump relay died. Not sure how many of these you've tried to fix, but from the initial description of the problem, that's my guess.

^the '88 she has is carbed and has a mechanical fuel pump, so that's out if the picture.

It's hard to determine exactly what she means, but this really sounds like a starter issue, Yet it must be turning over if she has spark & fuel. A good quality video is worth 1,000 posts.

What I'm guessing is that she means the lights/ electrical come on, but instead of the usual "click-click-click-vroooooom" sound you get when starting, it just cranks over.

Do Festivas have fuel pump shutoff switches? (even if carbed?)

the fuel pump is mechanical, so no relay needed for mechanicals like that...

That's already been covered, but I was asking if it had a fuel pump shutoff switch still.

I would assume not, unless you're talking about the switch behind the speaker, but even then I doubt it since that was in the ELECTRICAL circuit for the ELECTRICAL FUEL pump in 90-93 to shut electrical power to the pump, so it doesn't make sense that it would work on the 88-89 Mechanical Fuel Pumps, someone correct me if I'm wrong....

There's nothing going to the fuel pump on a carby except for three hoses. Nothing electrical touches it.

                          hi!

there is NO compression and the spark is weak.

Maybe it needs a new distributor cap. The furl pump may just be bad in general.

When you say NO compression do you mean literally zero or just a really low number? I.E. lower than the 149 psi minimum but higher than zero?
