I've got a civic radiator with a 14" slim fan and a 180 degree thermostat in my Protege (4wd BP swapped) and it cools it adequately enough.

I was thinking about that too. I'll be doing what I can to it friday before I head out for 4thstivaOriginally posted by TominMO View PostYour rad might just be clogged. A new one cured my Festy's overheatig problem."Lane, I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I'm no dummy."

well a side from some scale knocked loose and making the coolant merky brown. I would say the fan switch is faulty. I would go ahead and hook up a toggle switch for now. If you see it climbing to half way just turn the fan on for a bit and drop the temp down. It should be ok on the highway, you should only need the fan in town traffic. Or just unplug the fan switch and let it run till you get there. Don't pull the rad or thermostat till we get a look at it. Smedley's BP swap car was doing the same thing when I looked at it.Last edited by kartracer46; 06-29-2011, 07:21 PM.91 Festiva GL "Scrat"

I'm just gonna run with it unplugged for now. I'm gonna drain the dirty coolant and put new in tomorrow and drive it around a bit. I'll leave the rest for all you "pros" to check out at the meet!Originally posted by kartracer46 View PostOr just unplug the fan switch and let it run till you get there. Drained old coolant and installed new. Also got a new radiator cap since the old one was pretty much dunzo. Verified that the fan actually does work when plugged in so hopefully I'll make it to 4thstiva tomorrow without a problem and get some real "doctors" to take a look at it!"Lane, I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I'm thinking the tstat may be bad but I'm probably wrongOriginally posted by JoDan View PostI would check the temperature differences between the top and lower rad hoses and also the heater core to see if something is plugged or the t-stat isn't opening.
Didn't do a full flush, just a drain and fill for now. I was mainly checking to make sure the radiator wasn't clogged. The crew at 4thstiva will be looking at it for me tomorrow.Originally posted by bhazard View PostUhh did you flush the coolant or just drain and fill?
It's weird because after I put new coolant in I was checking to see what's up with the rad. fan. As soon as I started the car the fan came on (it was plugged in) and stayed on until the car actually started to get hot, then it cut off. So then I unplugged it at the temp. sensor and it still didn't come back on"Lane, I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I'm no dummy."

That is weird, there must be an epademic lots of people are having fan trouble lately.1992 white L, Bp, American racing 13's, stock trans.
1991 White L, BP/F5MR, protege header, full aspire swap with gr2's, seats, and sway bar, 15" konig's, short throw, escort console.
1991 blue L, 5 speed.

I would burp the system via the sensor in the therm housing. Keep it finger tight and when you get to temp loosen very slowly to let it dribble out. A lot of high power srt-4 engines recently have been messed up because of this oversight.1993 GL 5 speed
It's a MazdaFordnKia thing, and you will understand!

Only thing I did before the meet was drain and refill rad. fluid.....did great on the way to the meet and back (and I took the long way both times). It might just be the fact that I get super worried about my cars after all the problems I've had. I think I still need to keep an eye on it and go from there.Originally posted by Gforcefd View PostHow did this turn out and what was the culprit?"Lane, I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years.
