its just my belief but your not supposed to gap platinum plugs that's why they put the cardboard protector on the threads so if they are dropped in the box lots of copper plugs have this to and all come out at what they were gaped at the factory at

That is correct, Bosch had the mistaken belief that gapping plugs
caused there platinum pellet to fall out. Truth is they fall out just as
fast, it is a inferior design. Plugs that are in 24 packs or plugs with
cardboard protectors are preset, maybe even to your application
If gap needs set do not touch the platinum parts or any other exotic
metal.
