doesn't work in neutral either , and i tried moving the shifter a few times, nothin, and the e-brake light comes on when you turn the key forward for start, which i think indicates an interlock issue (i think), that light ususally doesn't illumanate during a normal start

have you tried replacing the middle fusible link on the drivers side strut tower. If it is bad it will still let all the lights come on but will not engage the starter. It may also just be corroded if not bad. Just a thought.

You might want to pick up a double-male to single-female spade adaptor so that the circuit that energizes the fuel pump when cranking is energized. It will also provide a place for the original wire so it won't ground on something.

i was actually going to splice in the extra start wire just before the original spade connector for the starter, makin a "Y" into the starter, so I can start it normaly (once fixed), and use the extra wire as and emergency start, i just have to make sure the key is forward so the pump and accessories are on to start it in "emergency mode".

No need for any black tape if you get one of those 50 cent adapters.

                Sapde terminal

Had the same issue. It was crappy corossion on the Male/female solenoid connection. Spliced in a new female connector.Cleaned male & "tinned" it with solder. Never did it anymore. If it did it with a different starter like you said. I would look real closely at three things. Battery connections @ the posts (shouldnt be able to move them by hand).Neutral safety switch. And feamle spade connector @ solenoid.

well, you hit it, the solonoid is frozen in place, i did my jumper thing, and same thing, just clickes a bit, so the starter is garbage, i cleaned the contacts not long ago on the solonoid so its not the contacts, and i tried tapping it, nothing, so i'll look at gettin a new starter/this one re-built
