B6 Swap Bogging down.

Got all the way to pulling the head, and the dang sockets I keep JUST for head removal on a B3 (now for B6 as well) have grown legs and walked off!

Make sure you check the head for warp/cracks. I hope a gasket fixes it, but my fear is a cracked block....from the PO letting it sit with water in it or something.

You should be able to tell if its the gasket when you pull the head. The only oil pssges re the oil feed hole nd the returns at each corner. The returns are not pressurized nd the water jackets should be...so I would expect antifreeze in the oil if the leak was around the returns. If the leak is around the oil feed hole, I would expect the HLAs would have issues staying pumped up due to lack of oil pressure...but strange things can happen. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I was hoping t be past this, and an Aspire swap by now, and entered into FOTM. This is kind of a blow. I miss my Baby Car

So, the weather FINALLY let up enough for me to get back to work. Drank too much coffee, and got the shakes, had to stop for a while. Then, the 12 point socket set I picked up at AZ to replace the ones that grew legs were junk, wouldn't fit the head bolts.(The kind that fit both SAE and Metric with one socket.All they had.) Went to wally world, of all places, and got a set of Stanley 12 points in SAE and Metric 1/2 inch drive for $20. 12mm fit like a glove. Thank the flying spaghetti monster, and Zulu ministries for wally world at 2AM!

Any hole, got the head out, and cleaned like a madman for a couple hours. Got it all back together, and went to start it. No fire.

So, I got as far as figuring out I was still getting fuel to the rail, but none into the cylinder, when the sleep monster grabbed a hold of me, and started chewing, so I knocked off, and am fixing to go to bed. Gonna come back to this in about 18 hours, about 5AM....

OH! I forgot to mention, there were a couple of spots that looked like they MIGHT have been allowing oil through, hard to say. Pics later, since tapatalk is down for now.

Sounds like good news so far! Those Stanley tools at WalMart are a well kept secret. I have been using them for about 6 or 7 years now with no issues. The best part is I filled my tool box with tons of tools for just over 100 bucks!

The winner is that twist rachet they have. Twist it back and forth and it spins fastners really well. Its a german design, and you know the germans make good stuff /shamwow vince

Man, I took the last one as I was putting it in, and pondered how far in equipment I have come in a dozen years. I remember crying for a hoist, now I wonder how I ever managed without my chain hoist!

My mechanic buddy was gloating, just like you, about lifetime warranted 'black chrome' Stanleys but 4 years later he's given up on all of them. Ratchets have all stripped many more times than once and he doesn't trust any of them anymore. I too have an entire kit (for $120!) of Stanleys but leave them in the trunk strictly for road side use. The old adage 'you get what you pay for' usually holds true.
