Question about replacing Transmission

    There's an excellent 'how to' on this site describing a gearbox swap. Something I'd add is remove the threaded stud that the gearbox steady bar fits to on the gearbox before fitting the gearbox, otherwise it can get in the way. Also tie the steady bar up out of the way, it drops down when the old 'box is removed and is near impossible to get back in position once the new 'box is in. How do I know that?

      I Got my girl running about a week ago, everything seems good to go already 400+ miles on it, It was a 91' transmission so yeah it didnt have to be a 93 since my car was, and glad it didnt have to be.

        Just for clarification.

        I put an Aspire trans in my Festiva and I can tell you that the rear mounts might not be the same, but it makes no difference.

        The front mounts ARE different and you need the one from the transmission that you're installing.

          I have an 89 festiva L with a 4 speed trans and I would like to have a 5 speed. What year would work for that? I hear a 90 will but not sure and I go to order the part tomorrow. Also could u link the 'how to' because I can't find it on hear. I just signed up today so I'm new to the forum thing

            All years 5 spd will work. I put this link on your other thread.

              Can someone describe the steps to reinstall the clutch cable and what brackets I need? It seems im missing something and I just can't seem to figure it out

                All you need is one bracket that has a Large Guide Tube on it. It bolts to the Top of the Tranny

                  I have that and have tried but the cable doesn't seem to be long enough to reach the lever that has the spring in it. I have pulled all of the cable as much as I can

                    Maybe the cable has partially frozen and won't fully run out? So PB blaster or other penetrating oil on it might help, and then running it in and out a lot.
                    Or maybe it has become fouled inside the cabin around the clutch pedal assembly and wont' fully extend?
                    The lever should be aligned with the long axis of the engine block, parallel to the radiator support bar, and be able to move a little backwards into the engine bay. Is it jammed too far forward for some reason?

                      You have to run the threads out on the adjuster. Have you done that?

                          So, it doesn't work... 3-4 through neutral should be smooth and easy with a detent for each selection. Looks like you have a bum trans. And a 4 speed doesn't help unless it's a super early Cali trans which is like finding hen's teeth.
                          Trees aren't kind to me...

                                Good trannys can be hard to find. But with some fab work you can install a Kia Rio trans.
