  • Aspire speedo gear problems.

My speedometer doesnt work. I checked everything out today, and the cluster itself, the top cable, and the bottom cable are all fine.

I assume this means the gear in the transmission is toast? Is there only the drive gear itself that normally breaks, or are there other fail points?

How can I get one of these, and how hard is it to replace?

If it's just the speedo gear at the end of the cable it's easy to replace...in fact I might have a Festy one you could buy. There is a fail point in the tranny gear too though...so pull the gear out of the tranny and see if it's the speedo gear. Cross your fingers!

Aspire standard tranny speedo gear unit is supposed to be same as for all Festy, but auto Aspire is definitely longer and not compatible (reason I know is because I have one of these in my speedo parts bin).

Yes it will crank. The same thing happened to me. I went to the JY and got another transmission.

Im assuming if its the internal part, replacing is a little out of the question?

it's do-able, but it's not for the faint of heart or mechanical fortitude... spliting a trans is rather easy, i'd be more conscerned in finding that gear first.

Well, the prognosis is not good. The gears looks fine, and in tact. It was a little chewed up at the base, and it was hard to turn (it wasnt a struggle to turn, but definitely felt like something had gotten in there), but not in any way inoperable. I snapped two quick pictures in case you guys can see an issue I dont.

Though, I felt inside the trans, and the gear (towards the front of the car from the hole) also felt in tact. Looks like Ill be using my GPS for a speedometer for a while. Haha.

Hmmm...yeah, looks short. Has it ever worked? Might just not be the right one. Have you taking the speedo cable completely out of the housing and made sure it's not broken anywhere?

Nope, at least not since I got the car two weeks ago. Haha. It had definitely been removed before too. I think it may have been rePlaced because the old one leaked.

And no cable removal, but I had my girlfriend watch the speedo, as I turned the cable. It was jumping, and has never so much as twitched when I was driving.

I wonder if the PO replaced the speedo gear with the wrong one...that little gear might not even be reaching far enough down to catch the gears in the tranny..
