Yes unfortunately. Most spindle nuts aren't meant to be reused. Mine were trashed after being used once.

They seem to go on better the opposite way the were supposed to be like you said. I think im going to drill a hole in it and put a cotter pin as Bert mentioned
      to make it more secure.

Look at photos in the photobucket link above to see how to remove grease seals and other steps in replacing bearings.

Yeah the computer is backwards. I mentioned it to my managers when I worked there. They obviously didn't change it

There is no real point in installing a cotter pin in hopes of keeping the clinch nuts in place (on those you smack the lip with a cold chisel to lock it on to the spindle groove). You will want to find the nut arrangement that has slots in it (ie castle nut) in order to do this properly.

You can get another "life" out of the nuts by installing a washer under them. This makes them stop in a different place, giving you a clean piece to punch into the slot in the axle. The washer (of course) has to be a good, hard steel one of the correct size, not zinc plated crap from the hardware store.

Yea thats what i ended up doing i chisel the nut on the groove and torque it to the spec. So far so good.
