Valve seals Leaking on a BP.

Will bad oil rings show on a compression test? Have you tried the seafoam soak where you drop an ounce of it in each spark plug hole, roll the motor over a few times by hand and let it sit overnight?

First off you do a compression test with just the plugs out and second time you squirt oil down the hole. significant rise in compression then signals rings are shot. Called a 'dry' and a 'wet' test.

Yea I've done a few myself, the throttle needs held wide open too, but the top ring is the compression ring, second ring wipes oil back down the bore, and the third lowest ring is the oil ring that squeegies the majority of the oil back down. So if compression is based on the seal the top ring makes, would the oil ring really have much to do with it? Aside from maybe letting oil stay on the walls, causing dry test numbers to be close to wet test numbers, or low compression if the compression ring isn't sealing at all...but the car runs so maybe there's hope after the rings get unstuck?

it just randomly started this. i am hoping Mike is right about the PCV valve, that could cause oil leaks.

Pull the pcv out and shake it. If the stopper doesn't move around in there freely it may be caked up by old dried oil. I had a b6t do this to me one time. The head was new. I couldn't figure out why it was smoking thought it was the turbo. Replaced the pcv it stopped.

Update:
Check pcv valve and a little sludges up cleaned and working fine. Still smoke.
Added some seafoam to crankcase smoke dies a little. Removed spark plugs and added a little seafoam to each cylinder. And also looked down and not much oil on piston now I will let soak for a while. Then tomorrow try to crank a run the seafoam out.

Drove it for about 10 minutes around 10pm and it quicks smoking when warmed and driving like before. Will check again tomorrow and see where we are at. It all else I will be smoking all the way to FM7. Maybe I'll get best beater. Lol

A BP swapped Festiva that smokes a little I doubt will be anywhere close to be considered a "beater"

I hope your planning on changing your oil in a day or two, don't run with seafoam in the crankcase for more than 50-100 miles, it will cause other problems you don't want.

I am really not even sure if you have an issue, almost every vehicle I've ever owned smokes a little on warm up. I write it off as moisture buildup and drive anyway. Does it smoke so bad that you can't see your hand in front of your face, or is it a concentrated stream that dissipates 10' from the car?

When I accelerate it makes a giant thick cloud. Idle doesn't smoke bad at all. Drive for a little while almost goes away.

i will try next waiting on friend to bring me his. I just need to drive it to Greg and drop it off. But all signs now are pointing to rings.

UPDATE:
cleaned pcv and hose
cleaned injectors
replaced valve seals
did compression test 120 on all cylinders
changed spark plugs
the pcv valve has a little oil goo in it getting a new one tomorrow.

Mine smokes a little on start up & a little more when I accelerate the engine. After it warms up it stops smoking. When I first got the car it smoked bad with a cold engine. Now that it's my daily driver, it hardly smokes at all.
I will be using high mileage full sinthetic motor oil. Hopefully it will help from not smoking.
I'm not too worried about it. The engine has alot of power and pep.

120 sounds low? was the throttle wide open, all plugs out, and about an ounce of oil dropped in the spark plug hole before you screwed the tester in?
