I checked the timing belt several different times to make sure it was right. I will look at it and see. Don't I have to ground something when checking the timing?

I dont think so unless these have a spout connector.just hook pick to #1 wire and of course to battery.but then agian u can adjust the dizzy quite a bit just c if u can get lined up

I will look at it tomorrow. But my Haynes manual said ground a connector by the brake booster to the motor and then set the timing. But I checked the timing belt 3 times while it was off just to make sure it was perfect but I could have messed up. But I may have missed something somewhere. Another question I have is if the dizzy got turned the wrong way would the car still start and run? Like its lined up in the cam shaft wrong.

Im not sure if it would run or not but if u set ur motor to tdc and set the dizzy rotor pointing towards the #1 wire on cap then should be good. But if u cant do that.then just pull dizzy out trun rotor 180 put back in and c what happens. Not trying to be rude but if you need walked through the whole timing setup deal call me at 502-264-1391

chris, if the dizzy is 180 out, something is very wrong. the dizzy drive shaft is offset to keep that from happening, as is the cam.

My rotor has 3ways it can go on, if its not lined up it wont run. Timing belt deff sounds off a tooth, how far out is your timing. If you ground out the sti wire it will stop the pcmfrom advancing the timing, its how i do it, gives me the accurate timing.

Where is the STI wire? I have several wires by the brake booster.

I'm gonna check the timing belt tomorrow just to be sure.

Well that rules out dizzy bein 180 out. So has to be the timing belt

STI wire is a black plastic (white for carbys?) female plug, near the driver's strut tower/brake MC. It's the only one-wire plug there, I believe; there are several plugs there. Stick something metal into it and ground it against the motor. I use a spade connector permanently in the plug, which also makes it easier to find again, then use alligator clips to connect it to the motor. And yes, you do have to do this to time it properly.

When I ground the black one and start timing the car as the mark gets closer to the 10 degree the car stalls out.

So then it's not possible to turn the dizzy 180 and have it lined up wrong with the cam shaft?
