  • 88 festiva wont get up and go

    Ok so....
    88 ford festiva

New plugs , cap, wires, button, and coil.
New clutch and did a 5 speed swap

It spits and sputters and has zero power

I have checked the cat and its empty so is rest of exhuast.

I ran carb cleaner through it a few times.

Now i just jacked up the front and put it in first gear.

Just idling in 1st geat the passenger tire was spinning but the driver side doesnt spin. I can spin it by hand but the transmission cant spin it.

Is the transmission bad? Its a new cv and its not spinning at at all.

Could your brake caliper be dragging?

Fwd cars always do that. With the one tire spinning in gear at idle stop the moving one with your foot. The other one should start spinning.
Its the limited slip differential that does that. Or, as its called in our cars- unlimited slip

Carb isn't running fat is it? Have you checked for spark on all 4 cylinders?

That bad? If you hit the clutch or put it in neutral while moving how does it coast? Same as before or does it slow down faster?
Doin a speed your used to doing let off the gas like when you would go to slow down to turn. Does it slow down faster in gear like that? That would narrow it down to rear brakes or trans if yes.
If not is it possible you didnt tighten your distributor enough and it turned and changed your timing? I am unfamiliar with carbed festivas- is it vaccume advanced timing? Do you have a vaccume leak?

Do the fuel pumps ever wear out on these? When was the last time you checked your fuel filter? A bad tank of gas could have mostly plugged off the filter or plugged a jet.

There is zero drag on any of the wheels when I jack it up all four wheel bearings are good all the brakes are good

From what you said you did, I'd first look at plug wire order. The ignition timing shouldn't have changed, unless you loosened the two bolts that hold the disty on.
