High Idle

This started about 3 weeks ago.
'93 EFI, 5 spd.
When in gear with clutch in it idles high 15 - 1600 RPMs
If I take it out of gear the idle drops to normal - 600 - 700 RPM.
No Surge.
Only thing I've done before this started was replace the Fuel Filter.
Yep its installed correct, Flange down. In & out connected correctly.

Yea I Searched , nothing found like what I'm experincing.

Is this both with your foot off the brake? Or is your foot off the brake while in gear and on it when in neutral? Is it any gear you put it in causes high idle or just first? Reverse as well?
If you put it in neutral so its idling high and press the clutch down while still in neutral does te idle drop or is it not untill you actually put it in gear?

Foot on or off Brake , don't matter.
Only checked in 1st.
High idle in gear with clutch in , Idles down when in neutral ,clutch in or not.


Just went out & checked.
High idle in 1st or reverse if in gear with clutch in of course.
Idles down when in neutral , clutch in or out.
Brake on, or off.
Engine hot or cold , same thing.

Could O2 sensor cause this?

No o2 won't do it, but I wonder if you have a clutch safety switch issue that makes the PCM want to idle up to compensate for a perceived electrical load.

Ok, how can I check that?
It does not fluctuate , just idles up in gear with clutch in & stays steady, then normal idle in neutral with clutch in , & stays steady.
I'll check trans fluid tomorrow.

Last questions; is it hard to replace & does the parts store carry them?

Its called the Clutch Pedal Position Switch.
Can't find one anywhere for sale.

Well.. never could find a Clutch Pedal Position switch, No one carries them that fit our cars.
Not Ford, Mazda or KIA.
So I just said screw it, I'll live with it.
Latest ! It stopped doing it on its own. No more high idle with clutch in & in gear.
But now , when I turn the car off after a short while the Radio comes back on.
Not all the time , just sometimes.
Now I take the face off when I leave the car.

Could be a ground issue somewhere on the car.

This is not an issue at all, since you should not have your clutch pedal depressed for more than a fraction of a second anyway, to shift gears. Pushing it in and holding it there, as some people do at stop lights and signs, just adds wear to the clutch. Do not do this.
