  • How screwed am i

Recently I was doing some work and put the battery in backwards and had a bit of smoke come from the wires behind the coolant tank am I screwed or what exactly do I need to do because the car is no longer getting any power even when hooked to a jumper20161210_144018.jpg20161210_144018.jpg the center wire is what smoked before car no longer would get power

My son did that once and fried the middle wire. There wasn't any permanent damage to anything else. They have fuses to replace those crappy wires at parts stores.

Sounds like you fried the main fusible link

Just replace it with a cartridge fuse and you should be good to go again

      1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
      1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Usually doing that takes out the ECU... But the only way to figure it out is replace the fuse links with PAL long leg fuses: 2 pink and one green.
        Trees aren't kind to me...

        currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

This. Make sure to get the long leg cartridge fuse. Like this http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...1175&ppt=C0172 You can get them from cars in the junkyard if you are not in a hurry.

Fusible links are pretty effortless to replace. I think they're cheaper than fuses too.

I paid 4 and change pr fuse at o'reilly's.I prefer them over making the links but its up to the individual of course.Good luck.

They are basically just a wire with connectors on each end. Carefully pull on each end of the link to remove them. They may take some effort to get out if they've never been removed before. Reverse for installation, unless you buy fuses, which makes it even simpler.

Needle nose pliers would probably make the process easier

Make sure to scrape and clean the corrosion off the 2 terminals the fuse attaches to.I just use a small flat screw driver and get as much copper showing as possible.
