You could safely run it at 8 ohms but you get about half the power output to the speakers. You can buy 3 ohm speakers and run them in Parallel to make it 6 ohm but the are uncommon and more expensive and not worth the money/effort.

Looking into it today I learned that some Head Units may allow you to run 2 ohms on the rear channels because they are set up to be able to work with Subwoofers.

If you wanted to spend the money you could buy an amp to do it the right way. This NVX Amp is so small it can fit behind a the dash and never be seen or you can just mount a cheaper one under a seat and run the wires under the carpet.

Two 3 ohm speakers in parallel is 1.5 ohms. If you run them in series you get 6 ohms. I think you know this firebush, just didn't want anyone to get bad information. It's all simple theory called ohms law.:thumbs_up:

speakers in - waiting on headunit! they already sound great with the stock stereo - i'm doubting if i even needed to upgrade but too late

Justin, I am sure the speakers are a huge improvement over the 25+ years old ones that were in the car but when you want to spend a little more money and time you can fit a 6" speaker in the door. If you go even further and install sound deadener inside your doors you can get very nice sound up in the front area of the car. Remember the high frequencies are direct radiating so if you run large speakers in the back the high frequencies will be compromised. The 6" are a female dog to fit in the front doors of a Festiva but I guarantee it can be done. I had Infinity's in my '88.

They will sound so much better then the speakers you pulled out... you can see that the main cone is literally gone on the original speakers lol

got the new headunit in but it doesn't fit flush - don't know why, i spent a lot of time fishing the wires so they don't jam but i think it hits up against a metal piece in the back. how do you guys get yours to fit? have to cut something?

Yes, there was something i had to cut with a dremel but i cant remember what it is. See if you can see what its hitting from underneath to the side. Thats how i figured out what to cut

Mine has the Head Unit without the CD Player so it is about 4 inches shorter than normal so I can't help you on that part.
