  • Control Arm / Stabilizer bar

I was trying to replace the control arm on my front left wheel, and I couldnt for the life of me get the darn stabilizer bar nut off. It seems to have rusted to the the stabilizer.
Im guessing my only option is to replace the stabilizer bar too. I broke a socket wrench and a breaker bar adapter in the process, so it's on there pretty good. I did use a liberal amount of wd40 in the process to no avail.

Any tips for avoiding replacement of the stabilizer bar?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Yes, the bolt wont even budge, the threads that are exposed are eroded to just about nothing.

Use a torch to heat it up. Get it red hot. If you don't have a torch then drive it to a shop and ask them to heat it up and get it loose.

grab wd40, oil and old tooth brush an old pocket knife, scrape around the edge of it with the knife cleaning out the grooves. oil it, use liberal amounts. wipe it off with napkin hours later. wd40 the **** out of it and and then tooth brush it like crazy, bang on it with a wrench then u might be able to get it off. this is the cheap alternative.

[EDIT] jeeze i have a torch and i didn't even bother to think of it
didn't buy the torch for any kind of work at all

                Maybe here

The torch will work. Not one of those propane torches, a real oxy/acetylene set.

i'd try the most powerful impact wrench I could find and use a few cans of penetrating solvent
over a couple of days. i had an axle nut that had practically welded itself on, a 4 ft breaker bar
couldn't get it loose but 5 secs with a good wrench and good air supply ( 10 bucks at local
mechanic shop) and it popped right off.
Nothing says "triumph of enthusiasm over physics" like a Front Wheel Drive race car.

Since your bolt is frozen on the stabilizer bar you should also check the bolt that mounts the arm to the body. It is common for them to sieze and that is a much more difficult problem.
