Unfortunately no. Got it out and still no change. It's got me stumped.

well hmmmm, if it's not a clogged cat then possibly a sticking valve? as our engines are non interferance, that's a possibility. if it were that though, you'd deffinately hear a change in the sound of the engine at idle.

what DID happen when you pulled the O2 sensor?

There was no change in power with the O2 out. Haven't noticed anything sounding different in the engine. Is there a way to test the valves? Thanks

You can try a leakdown test if you can get ahold of the tool/machine needed to do it.

88Adventurer....have you taken it back to the guy that worked on it originally. I can't believe that the stuff you mentioned in your original post could make the car all of a sudden run like it is. If it went in running ok.....then with the stuff that was done it should of come out the same or better.

uummmm, I'm not the one w/ the trouble, 88Adventurer is. and I agree w/ you, nothing should have changed, but i've seen these things happen before and it had nothing to do with the service that was done to the car. lack of maintenance is usually the culprit behind anyone's troubles.

^^sorry about that...I was tired when I posted...I fixed it.
I do agree that a lack of maintenance can cause the problems he is speaking of, but, I do not agree that if he took it in and it was running fine.....the work that was supposedly done, could all of a sudden make the car run the way he is describing. Unless someone left a hose off or tweaked his timing or messed with something he does not know about...or something along those lines. Just my 2 cents

As I had written previously, I no longer live near the area where the work had been done.
I should have access to a timing light and will check that. Have been all over the engine compartment and haven't noticed anything unattached. It's a carb, don't know much about them as to whether or not that could be the problem.
And yes, it is always possible that something had been done to the car without my knowledge. Had a 92 Festiva and a garage told me it had a "dead cylinder." Put the plug wire back on and the "dead cylinder" was fixed.
