hondas are sick. my buddies integra b18c was sick and made 311 wheel hp stock motor with 11 psi seen it and rode in it. my bros b6t festy couldnt hang and it was on 18psi. plus i dont know what torque you are talking about cause the honda has more 15 ftlbs more. im not saying bp s arent sick but who wouldnt wish they had vtec like hondas.. hondas love boost and mods and definetely arent finiky or tempermental..bp s do cost less and thats why i like em plus they love boost....

to each their own, but dollar for dollar a BP would cost 1/4th the cost and can handle being boosted better than an unbuilt b16/b18.

but thats just what i know from my own experience.
what are you talking about about? Show me any mazda motor that is a 1.8 liter n/a that makes 190 hp and 137 ft. They dont exsist!

I would venture to say that if a stock BP is 149 hp then it is definitely not out of the question to get it up to 190 hp n/a, should be pretty easy with a little money, especially if we can get 8,000 hp out of an American V8. n/a or not it is still EIGHT THOUSAND HORSEPOWER. It just takes some work and creativity plus a wallet.

I would even go as far as saying that if the right person got hold of a stock BP that he could squeeze 175 hp out of it without changing any components just modifying, cleaning, lightening, freeing things up, etc.

"They don't exist" is a pretty bold statement. I'm not taking this personal because I don't have any vested interest in a 1.8L yet. I am speaking from what I have seen, heard, and know to be documented (not necessarily 1.8 Mazda but engine performance in general).

Why not compare apples to apples. How about a 1.8 dohc honda from the same year range as when the BP was produced.

                Mazda non-interference FTW.

i'd say i fair comparison would be a bp 1.8 out of a 93 escort gt, and a b18b 1.8 out of a 93 integra (no vtec). they are very comparable motors. the honda has 140 hp/125 tq, while the bp of the same year only has 127hp/114 tq. both motors love boost, but the b18b will usually start burning oil fairly quickly if not built up. i have to agree with carbon on that non interferance is a big plus.

                  sr20de is another awesome motor

non interference is definitely a plus.. and i would agree that the 93 bp is a better choice over a 93 b18.. cost is a big one but if that didnt matter. and i had a type r b18c like that guys festy i would take it over a bp. and i love the bp..

im going to step in here and say that first, i have owned many hondas. great cars and great little motors. in addition, the B6 and BP's also seem to be awesome motors. hondas get pretty damn good gas mileage and are pretty amazing considering many of their engines crank out 100-120 hp per liter stock. however, if youre looking for torque, you wont find it here. in addition, while they do respond ok to boost, they arent the best motors to slap turbos on. it is very do-able though.

im not gonna trash talk it. it all depends on what youre going for guys. thats what makes us unique clean car. i will see if i can do some digging and find out who owns it.

and as for the lip, it KINDA looks like it could have come off of a slyvia/240 and was modified. i could be wrong of course. also, the rims are made by rota (www.rotawheels.com) and are a copy of this wheel: http://allstarsandco.com/m7022.jpg

Firstly I love this car. Looks the part, is very neat, and probably very streetable.
I love the 'WTF' sticker on the rear corner! Gold!

I can see how many different reactions have become of the original post, but really- I am not one to judge. For christ sake, I did up a purple Festiva.

Kudos to the owner IMO, but not how I would have built it.
Isn't that what makes this world such a great place?

                                I own: 89 Festiva ~45mpg manual
                                99 civic ~35 mpg auto
The festy is more fun to drive, cheaper, and easier to work on.
