    Nice! That is good!

Here is my big question. WHY IN THE WORLD can't any automakers make a 200X model car that can pull these same numbers? or at least CLOSE to these numbers????

Am I totally missing something on this or are there certain standards now that are different than back when these were made or what?

-"Hairlipstiva" 1991 GL 5spd (swapped from an auto), rolling on Enkei 14x6 +38 with 195/45/14 Toyo's, Jensen MP5720 CD deck, tach install, LED strip in cluster, down position rear wiper, FMS springs, Gabriel shocks on 4 corners, Acura Integra short shifter
-Escort GT 91 donor car with BP, G5M-R tranny to be dropped in the little guy...

CAFE Standards. Its the reason American automakers can't make a car to compete with foreign competitors. That and UNION labor costs.

Rollover, side impact, offset frontal impact and pedestrian impact safety standards have added enourmous amounts of weight and complexity, making it impossible to build a car like the Festy or Metro again. And as stated above, the labor unions have been raping the domestic manufacturers for decades. With today's announced restructure, we should see labor costs for the domestics fall in line with those of the foriegn manufacturers.

I respectfully disagree about auto workers being to blame. Japenese auto makers actually make more when factoring in health costs. If the US could finally get past the plutocratic system of rule by falling in line with the rest of the developed world, health care could stop being an expensive option and more a safety net/right of being a citizen. Auto makers and their unions are the only reason they aren't joining the rest of the starvation wage masses. If Bush gets his 11th hour way, they soon will.
          Because....45 MPG.

When I was looking for a Festiva and not having any luck I started looking for a 5spd 1.0L Metro.. All the ones I found had extensive rust damage at points where the suspension mounted. Have you checked out yours in that area? I would probably still get one if I could find one cheap enough.

It's a common problem on the LCA's all metros have some sort of rust under there unless it was a west coast or southern car.

If all goes well this will be MY next project car....hehehe

I was at a JY the other day..I was walking by a Metro and the hood was up...looked at the engine and I think I could've put that in my pocket!!! ahhahahaha cute.

Hmmmmm...I wonder if those things will be a highly desireable classics in the near future? Probably for people like us? Do you think there will be more guys getting converted into the sub car ownership?

the valve cover is the size of a hershey's bar!
i'd say when gas goes back up, they'll become desireable again.. but until then, buy one! if you don't keep it, wait till gas is at $3.68 and get rid of it.
