Dollar for dollar, for most people it just doesn't make sense to build a B3. Of course, for some of us, it makes perfect sense.
have you seen what ive bolted onto my b6? any moron that knows how to use a 10mm wrench can do what i did, and make some pretty reasonable hp. It wont require any fab work either, just a couple welds and your done.

im also going to turbo my b6 for under 500 bucks, and by no means hack it together for 500 bucks its going to be pretty clean and reliable. Thats pretty cheap considering ive been hunting for an EGT in edmonton/alb/can here for the last 2 years with no success unless i wanna dish out $1500 for one with 300 000kms.

i agree with sasquatch, the SOHC engine has alot to offer, i just cant wait till mine is finished.

I think I was misunderstood there. I meant it just wasn't a popular route, and it IS easier/cheaper to make more power with a bigger B.

I'm not knocking it. I will be building a B3 soon I hope, as I have an extra one now.

Has anyone beeen able to source a metal headgasket for the SOHC b series?

i know i bought an ebay kit for a neon that came with a metal head gasket, im just wondering if there is one you can buy out there?

or do we not have to worry about head gaskets because mazdas have iron blocks?

I know miata guys dont worry about headgaskets until they make retarded amounts of power. is this the same as a b3/b6?

between a regular turbo setup and the rear turbo setup would there be a difference in power numbers?

nope, just response time. and the long pipe back to the intake acts like an aftercooler. plus you can run a smaller exhaust side to compensate for the lack of exhaust expantion in the turbine chamber.

Mine spools almost as fast as any front mounted turbo festiva that I've driven/ridden in. There is enough people here who have driven/ridden in my car to vouch for that.

Little OT, and maybe its been discussed before, but what kind of oiling system are you running for the turbo?

not saying it wasn't fast, just that it wouldn't be AS fast... besides, i still need a ride in that thing :p

You need to drive it !!!

Rocketman... I tee'd into my oil pressure switch for the feed, I have hard brake lines for oil lines, and return the oil to the motor with a carb fuel pump. (holley blue)

The one thing I found is the oil (fuel) pump needs to stay on to evacuate the oil from the turbo. So i wired a turbo timer to run that pump for 1 minute to keep the oil in the motor

think of it this way... to make boost the turbo has to have pressure in the exhaust side to spool the turbo... so everyone thinks that cause of the extra length of pipes it will take FOREVER to spool... if you found out the total volume of your exhaust system (from the valves to the turbo) on a small log manifold it wouldnt be that much, maybe .75 of a liter, if that... now if you take a rear mount turbo and find the total volume of that, i would guess it to be about 5 or 6 liters... so you are probably thinking it will take like 10 times longer to spool, BUT!!! you motor is just a big air pump... to make up the extra 5 liters of air your motor only has to do 3 or 4 rotations to make up that amount of air... and at 4000 rpm that happens faster than you can say lag... if you think about it rear turbo IS NOT "dumb" or a "stupid" place to put the turbo, its a very smart place to put it if you ask me

                            Mine spools faster:geek:

I t-charged my first festiva with the b3 and my current car before i did the bp swap. Like greg, i had the most fun with the b3t. i used an aspire manifold and a vj-11 with a 12:1 fmu, walbro 255 intank and the msd btm (not necessary but can get more power with more advanced base timing). The thing was a rocket with just 8psi.

Anyone thinking about doing a motor swap and then turbocharging SHOULD start by turbocharging the b3 if not just for the experience alone. A b3t will easily hang with and pull on a bp swap and the b3t can be done for cheap. My friend had a 98 mustang gt at the time that ran mid 14's and the stiva would walk it from a roll every time.

The b3 in my first car had 220 or 230k on it when i charged it. all stock old parts, beating the hell out of it driving it daily, had not a single problem. The engine actually ran better. It smoked some before and the smoke stopped completely after the turbo install. And I could still get 40mpg.

Would you rather, by learner's mistake, melt down all 4 pistons in that old b3 or that new bp you just rebuilt?

This made me laugh. Mine was going thru a lot of oil (from years of nitrous & 212k) when I turbo'd it.

Same thing it ran better and didn't smoke.

second: euro what size pipes did you use for your rear turbo set up (exhaust and intake side)? is smaller beter for less lag? was the pipeing custom from a muffler shop?... questions questions questions

third: resuwrected did you get my pm? if you cant come up its ok i understand you put alot of work into my car and i just thought you should be here to see it fire up since you put the work in. love ya no matter what bro and thanks for all the help i couldnt have done it without you for sure.
