thanks a bunch sasquatch! will they also work with the stock downpipe + elbow?

nothing else hey? that kinda dissapoints me i may have to hold off a while finding a turbo for it is going to be a pain.

Curious on how you did the passenger side mount. Swipe one from a protege or you make a stocker work with angle iron?

                This is cool!

To be honest, you have me really interested in the "lighter" rods and such.

Would Z5 rods fit a B3 or SOHC B6? Would they be a good way to lighten the moving parts on those engines?

Or, would a B6 SOHC head fit onto the Z5 block?

Finally, are you saying that there is a JDM ALUMINUM Z5 block?

If so, my drool won't be contained, for I'm thinking an aluminum block, 1.5 L "B5" for some optimal handling with a bit of power! Or perhaps what you're doing, minus the turbo.

                Karl

PS: And yes, I'm curious about that passenger side mount, for obvious reasons!

The MX6 / Probe use the VJ11 which will bolt to the B6T manifold, but the the stock B6T dump pipe/downpipe will not work with them. (it looks like it will but it doesn't)

Do you still have a VJ14? You can make a hybrid & retain the stock downpipe

just finished for the day but here is a rundown of what parts im going to use:

                    b6T head W/ miata cams
                    protege Z5 1.5L block
                    arp head studs
                    cometic miata head gasket
                    stock festiva throttle body
                    b6T intake mani
stock festiva trans W phantom grip + suzuki swift clutch + light flywheel
                    stock festiva oil pan
                    miata water pump
festiva oil pump + oil pickup tube.
                    B6K1 ECU/ Green top injectors.
No wiring whatsoever, direct bolt in

and the last part holding me back:
                    mx3 1.6 DOHC exhaust manifold.

for the passenger side mount it should be the same as the B6T, but im making one from spare parts i have... EGT passenger side mount w/ protege mount hopefully it all works the passenger side mount is the only other thing i need to figure out, but am by far the least worried about.

So last week i tried putting the miata head on a SOHC block to bust the myth once and for all and said it was impossible, well i was using the wrong waterpump therefore the timing is way off. With the measurments i have from the Z5

IT IS POSSIBLE TO PUT A DOHC 1.6 HEAD ON A SOHC 1.6 BOTTOM END!!!!!! with playdough on the z5 block, the valves dont come anywhere near the tops of the pistons. Im thinking the SOHC b6 bottom end and the miata DOHC head would be the greatest combination. the rods are lighter than a miata and smaller and the compression would be a tad higher i think. I am now regretting doing the z5 when i had a perfectly good b6 sohc block in the car already

i will take some pics and do the final myth busting once my z5/b6T creation is running on the road and when i can find a damn replacment b6T turbo... mines all toast.

                            Loving all of this thread.

SAfety guy: my internet research has not confirmed if the japanese blocks are aluminum. However there are a lot of importers less than an hour from me and it seems that the 1.5 engines are slow sellers. Cash waved in their face at will call might net a good deal. the japanese engine is a good 10-20 hp more than usdm, and the ones with mazda version vtec is even more but thats a wiring nighmare as youd have to get a connection on the right ecu and harness which would be a problem these days after the earthquake.

                              Yep that's the one.

What all did the Z5 come from? I'm interested in the dual ribbed belts - would the crank pulley from the Z5 fit a B6 do you know?

Z engine FAQ/sticky time. This info is really helping me build this other car in my head. It's farther along than my actual swap.
