      Are these trannies with the plate mod? Now, I'm just looking to figure out which Kia's have these trannies. Unfortunately, "Kia" is too short for the search to use.

          Nope a plain jane G-series with the diff replaced with an LSD *should* last quite some time if you're at 250ft-lbs of tq as long as you're not totally trashing it 24/7

          IDK how I feel about the plate mod, it seems difficult to do if you're not a machinist. Does someone make & sell the plates?

            Well I definitely want to build my BP+T tranny as robust as possible, so I'm gonna plan on using a Kia tranny with the plate mod. For the B6T I've got a cable G-series on the way that I'll have open. I'm figuring I may as well get two of the plates done. I'll have to browse around on club protege and see if anyone there does these. Otherwise, I'll see about getting some machined up.

              No one makes them but I think there might be a CAD file floating around the net somewhere.

                luckily we have a few machinist floating around... myself included.

                Can someone find that CAD file? I like the one w/ the bearing cups in it instead of just the plate, but just the plate would be easier to reproduce naturally. If someone can get the CAD file and there is interest I might be able to make a few, after I finish some other side projects I have going on.

                    Not sure what the cost will come out to be, I'll have to take a look at the CAD. I can use the machines at work as long as we're not super busy with something, so we'll see once I got it set up how long it takes.

                    The trick may be machining on the trany case - everyone would have to get that done on their own, unless they want to send it to me and then have me mod it. We'll see how this works out, hopefully we can make it work

                            Not exactly... the case could be a little more crudely machined to accept the plate but I still think it needs a precise amount removed to allow the shafts to be bolted down with the correct pre-load, and the plate would have to be doweled/pinned to the case to make sure everything lines up perfect. Isn't really a "simple" thing to do IMO

                              Perhaps "simpler" wasn't the best choice of word. I didn't mean that being simpler would make it simple, rather, less involving. Say, if you gave a shop the job of making the plate, then the job of machining the case, I'd imagine you'd be spending more to have the plate done. But, anyways I'm going to far with this. haha I was just expecting, and hoping, that it wouldn't require as much to have the case done.

                              But, if we were to end up shipping the case section to get done with the plate mod, at least it would be relatively small in comparison to shipping a complete tranny.

                                Well I contacted the guy who's Protege was linked on Page 1. He would be the one who made the CAD of the plate mod. He's willing to make some plates, and will machine the tranny and install the plate if you send it to him.

                                "For 1-3 of them, they would be $300US each. The price would go down to $285US each for more than 3. If you send me the transmission case, I will mill it and install the plate for $125. These prices don't including shipping."
