  • DIY ECU. beta testers? Anyone? :)

So that thread I have started a year ago - http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...autopsy-anyone - got me to a kinda functional DIY ecu unit

This is not a PnP thing yet, but I am getting closer and if anyone wants to be a beta tester you know where to find me.

The is more about all this at http://rusefi.com and http://rusefi.com/forum

You can actually run the car on that board in the video?!?! Amazing! I would mount that on my dash, as a conversation piece (with a smaller base platform of course).

Nice. A guy on a miata board had a WIP using the Arduino unit, but it never got finished. The time has come indeed. Tech is cheap enough now. MS is severely overpriced.

        Bravo!
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

As a redneck you should be capable of building a dyno like http://jalopnik.com/5807502/how-to-b...for-just-2000/

We will definitely begin with N/A Gasoline engines. You will need to fabricate your harness - for instance Festiva/Aspire connector is available on http://www.ebay.com/itm/121122884285 but obviously at any junkyard also. It would help if you would be able to solder your input and output boards, but this we might be able to work out with guys on the forum.

Do you think you would be able to make a small harness extension?

So I build this harness and plug in your board? What do I have to do then? Report info back to you?

I have a degree in Electronics, spend 8 hours a day soldering and troubleshooting.. I know nothing about tuning cars.

Step 1: build harness, solder a prototype board with ~3 components, plug the stm32f4discovery board - get a tachometer in your laptop, enjoy.

Step 2: add ~5 more components to that board and start controlling your Idle Air Valve Solenoid. That would be work in progress till we get an implementation of our own idle algorithm which would be good enough for daily driving.

Step 3: start controlling fuel injection. At this point we can do a bit of tuning, this is still relatively easy & safe.

To be continued. Depends on your goals i guess - if you would enjoy fooling with all this or if you are planning to turbo-charge or any other alterations to your engine. Maybe you just want to convert from batch injection to sequential injection, maybe you want to throw the MAF sensor away, install a MAP sensor and get a 1 h.p. gain

I will take some pictures of my harness and the smaller versions of the initial boards and start a thread on my forum. If you would be available to help on the EE side of things what would be amazing.
