So you have a B3 head on a B6 block then?

Don't think that would flow enough for the displacement, but who knows?
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

I believe so. At least that's what is seems to be.

I also received a spare 8V head with the car. Maybe this was the original one that was on the block? I'll take a look and see if it lines up.

My next question: If the head that is currently on the car is for a B3ME, would the fact of it having 16 valves cause it to flow as much as a stock B6 8 valve head? I just want to figure out if it would be worth it to put the other head back on if its the correct one.

That's a good question. IDK. Maybe F3-BZ will chime in.

If you do swap it, I'm still interested in the mech rockers. I would even send you some hyds to replace them so you could still sell the head.

I would think it would be worth swapping the stock head just to have a known good setup to start with instead of where you are now. But that's my opinion, and I'm certainly biased.

They never fail, and they don't ever bleed off or get pumped up, so they are technically more consistent. That's about all. I just prefer them. Most people don't, because you have to adjust them eventually.

The 16V head flows very well but the water passages between the B6 block and the early B3 8V head don't line up very well. Check the water holes between the B3 16V head gasket and the B6 head gasket, if they line up well, you should have a great set-up!

                B3 16V

                B6:

They look awfully similar, other than the splitter in several of the holes.

Then again, this one does not have splitters:

Here are some pictures of my 8 Valve head. This is the one that came with the car. Looks like a B6 head based on the bottom surface and the 61k stamp. I'm hope it is still good in case I want to swap heads.

After looking at the pictures of the head gaskets in the post above, I'm confused as to why the B3 16V has a different mating surface than the regular B3 head. If this was a B3 16V then it should, in theory, be able to transfer to my stock B3 Festiva, correct? But the gasket for it says otherwise.

A normal B3 gasket looks like this:

Were there other variants of B3 blocks?

Is it the DOHC b3 16v? That engine appears to be a destroked b6d, not a B3 with a 16v head.

                    • Yup, looks like the water passages on the 16V line up with the B6 ones. With those extra outboard oil returns, it must go to a later block, not the same as B61P anyway

                      • Ahh, like the mx3 b6d or the Z series blocks.

The head currently on the car is the SOHC 16V. The previous owner said the head/injectors/intake was from a 121.

The block he told me was from a 92 323

                          • Man. I hope this thing runs with no leaks. With that, I mean water, oil, and compression. Ha.

                            • Looks like I misspoke, close look at a B61P block and it appears to be the same pattern.

Seems to be running with no water or oil leaks at this point.
