Fieros were rated at 140hp, not the 112 of the x body's, then you have the 160+ HP from the 3.4.

As far as tuning: use the factory thermostat, port match, chuck the upper intake, add compression, loose the log manifolds, and cam it. And DO NOT use platinum plugs. The factory design doesn't breathe well past 4500 mostly due to the crappy intake manifold. There was an edelbrock carb intake for the 1g 60* and that would support 7000 rpm.
        Trees aren't kind to me...

        currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

Do any American made engines breathe well above 5k? Lol

There is a guy at work that dropped a 3.8 supercharged Buick in a Fiero. Quite fast.

I make my own Holley 2 barrel manifolds for that engine.
This has been dynoed over 7000 rpm.

In theory the Duratec/ Ecoboost family would be possible since the Fusion and Escape used a 2.3l with a G series 5 speed. I have never really dug into it but you should be able to build a trans that bolts to the block and uses the XR2 half shafts. The only problem is fitting that combination it the car.

I think the 1.0l ecoboost would be interesting since we can assume with some confidence that it will physically fit. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the 1.0l doesn't use the same bell housing bolt pattern as the bigger duratec family engines. I think the easiest path would be full fiesta drive train (1.0L and 5sp) and custom half shafts. Then you run into all the other problems with the ecoboost engines like finding a aftermarket controller to run the DI and VVT or figuring out how to make the CAN in the factory ECU happy.

While I was still considering trying to swap a 13bt, I found a thread (I can't for the life of me remember where) of a guy swapping a 13b into I think a Kia and he also had a Festiva waiting as his next project. He had adapter plates and everything. Also found someone selling a Hayabusa Festiva on CL. I've been looking along the lines of a small 1.0-2.0L FWD car with lots of proven potential and common enough I might find one wrecked for a decent price.

I have always thought a diesel in a festiva would be very nice. Tractor engines is normally all that would fit, and there is a guy on youtube who did that, but there are some more now. The diesel smart car engine would be interesting. It only weighs 190 pounds, 800cc, 54hp and 96fp of torque. If you could somehow get that to 120 or so on the torque side and still be getting 70mpg or whatever that would be really cool
I have only heard of the fiesta having a 1.5 and a 1.6 diesel motor. The 1.6 having 93hp and 147fp of torque. That would be fun

On the other hand a 2 stroke gas motor from a big snowmobile would be quite the head turner as well.

On the subject of 2 strokes, are there any 2 stroke diesels that would fit? They sound pretty awesome.

Okay another thought what about something like what the honda insight ran, gas generator to run electric motor or like i saw a harley years ago gas motor(which ran a hydro pump) to a hydraulic impeller! Like a hydrostat tractor

Someone with too much money needs to buy a tesla and rip everything out and install it in the festiva. Then put 2 honda generators under the hood to charge it. Pull up to the track, open the hood to pull start your generators and then do the 1/4 in 3 seconds or whatever, lol.
Problem with anything i have ever driven that went fast on hydrostatic power is how insanely loud it is. Its a noise i dont like either. A 145hp tractor that does 50km/hr on hydrostatic power is unbearable after 2-3 hours even with earmuffs.
