  • AWD SETUP

I love my b6t and my bpt but for me the end of the line is an AWD festy. What AWD cars could i get the swap from? Clearly it would be 100% custom everything. Clearly i dont have the time to do it right now. Nor the abilty. I need a new thing to think about tho.

I saw a civic video from youtube with a crv awd swap. I would think that would be a fairly easy swap... but not for me just yet.

What are the options for an awd festy?

323 GTX maybe? Most the parts would be at least somewhat familiar.

Yeah I was thinking some GTX model car from japan, I would think that may be kinda tough to find, but maybe not if you just need certain parts

Gtx awd g series and miata rear end.
Problem is the mazda awd stuff isn't that strong and it would be more of a stright line car after the swap. But you could say I have an awd festiva .

I like the idea of going the honda route due to parts being easy to come by.

any other ideas floating around out there? What about the awd talon setup.

I have an AWD Festiva. It's just... junk. But it's AWD.

Whats the point? Overall, it's not worth it. I want mine to be something I can crawl around the forest roads in the mountain with. Not gobs of power, not go fast, not handle well. Any of those things will be better left to a FWD festy.

Yeah in the end it's not really impressive. Traction has never been an issue for me on the highway. Why give up power from the engine to power the rear wheels when its not needed?

Now in the snow? Mud, dirt, etc? That's different. Off road? Might as well put it on a Sammy chassis or something. At least then you'll have a low range.

But as has been said, the Mazda-based stuff is weak. Maybe Subaru Justy? Weak too for sure.

No matter what, plan on some serious alterations to the body. Gonna have to cut up the firewall and build a tunnel so it doesn't look like Nate's garbage (I'm still sorry, buddy).

I think there were some 1991 AWD Proteges. Could steal some parts from those things and then you aren't cutting up a 323 GTX.

Correct. I've been looking at this option for the last little while. A buddy of mine has 2, one being a parts car he said I could steal from

The easiest way that I've come up with would be the toyota e153 transmission and transfer case with a solid rear axle out back. Doing this would require tubing the front and back halving / caging the car. Mazda never made a 4wd trans for the b series that would hold any power. Honda/dsm transmissions are on opposite side of the car if I remember right. The only "off the shelf" solution is the bp/e153 adapter plate.

Sounds like e153 is the way to go
