yes, I'm currently working on porting a 323/626/mx6 cc into my festiva. The main on off switch works as is. The resume, accel, etc takes a little work but not much. The switch year that corresponds with the computer im using (same as pictured above), is a little different. It is built into the steering weel. The wheel will not work with the festiva because it uses special contact mechanism to make those switches work. I wanted to use the ones on the 626 intermittent wiper switch. So I took the switch board out of the wheel and sodered some wires from the the wiper cc switch so that the wiper cc switch works natively with our module. I also had to make a special relay system as according to the 92 protege sm (see http://bntbtc.com/festiva/323sm.pdf, originally from fordlaser.com). Everything should be done in a couple of weeks (if i get enough time from the girl, work, and graduating from hs ). The only thing I'm worried about, is one of the inputs on the computer, is from the 323's ecu. according to the sm, its a constant 12v, hopefully this is true, because that can easily be made. anyways, i'll keep everyone posted in the meenwhile.

Ford Command Cruise
I picked up this kit on the bay yesterday.
It is not the one recommended for the Festiva, but after checking out the component numbers in each kit, the only difference appears to be the command switch lever assembly. Yesterday, a similar kit for the Bronco went for $41.
There is one more listed for tomorrow for $10. I don't know if it will work or not with the Festiva, but I believe most of the parts should.

firewall hole
I have ordered a cruise speed sensor for the Festiva. 25horseplay has told me that the factory part number is E8BZ-9E731-A. It goes in between the speedometer and the speedo cable. In preparation for the install, I have drilled a 1" hole as per insructions. There is a knockout in the firewall insulation. It is slightly higher and to the right of the brake vacuum.

decisions
I have a choice between the Rostra Precision (all in one unit) that CharlieZ so graciously sold me...
or install a Ford Tempo cruise kit that I purchased for $5 on eBay...
The instructions for the Ford unit are mind boggling + there are a lot of parts that take up a lot of space in the engine compartment.
The Ford servo\valve body would bolt onto the strut tower and have only about 1/4" of clearance with the timing case cover.
The vacuum ball would take up valuable horn space to the left of the power steering reservoir.
The computer control would have to be located under the dash.
I am tempted to try the Rostra first. What do others think?
The Rostra Precision unit is a single black box with tamperproof screws.
I am tempted to see what's inside.
Tomorrow I will peek inside and let you know. Stay tuned. Same bat time. Same bat channel.Last edited by bravekozak; 09-06-2009, 07:06 PM.

tp screws
It was a torx bit with a hole in the middle. Since I had the bit, I left them in. There are also two screws on the wire cover for just a regular torx bit. The dip switches are located immediately behind it. But I opened the whole thing up. I was right. The computer is inside.
There is no vacuum accumulator. I don't know if that means a slow response to load or not.
Vacuum is highest at idle and lowest at high rpm. Since the vacuum pulls the throttle cable, you will need a lot of it for a good quick strong pull.
Anyway, I checked how and where I would mount the separate Ford computer. The holes on the ECM bracket are just a touch wider than the holes in the black plastic housing. Can you say Dremel?

correct sensor
Here is what the correct sensor parts look like prior to assembly.
Note that the O-ring in the polycarbonate adapter will push on snugly all the way until it pops into the speedometer groove.
Also note the square drive pin with a 45 degree twist in the middle. This floats in between the sensor and the speedometer.
Here is a pic after it is pushed onto the speedometer.
I measured all the lengths and tested to see if the speedometer deflects properly when the sensor cable is spun after assembly.
No problems.Last edited by bravekozak; 11-19-2010, 08:52 AM.

E8bz-9e731-a
E8BZ-9E731-A is threaded both sides. I couldn't figure out how to put the magnetic pickup in line, even though it had threaded sleeves. I believe the goal is to install the pickup in a protected area without making the overall speedometer cable too long in the engine compartment.
I studied the Festiva cruise manual and could not see how figure 24 could apply to the Festiva speedometer.
I did research the possibility of installing an upper Thunderbird speedometer cable, but the seller told me it was 20" long.Last edited by bravekozak; 11-19-2010, 09:40 AM.
