Green Sales Company shows one in stock.
    Quantity PartNumber Update Basic Description
    1 E8BZ9E731A 11/18/2010 SENSOR ASY SPD CTL

I will remove my speedometer gear and try screwing this sensor in between the speedometer gear and the speedometer cable. If it works, I will post a picture for you after I try spinning the gear to make sure the speedometer responds.

Whatever way you slice it, The pickup lead must go back to the cruise computer which should be located under the dash.

The magnetic pickup on the speedo cable is the most accurate way of determining vehicle speed. As the sleeve magnet passes the mini magnets located in the sensor hub, a pulse is generated in the current. The pulse frequency is directly related to the speed of the vehicle.

        it works

I screwed the cruise sensor in between the speedometer gear and the speedometer cable.

No problem. I spun it and the speedo responded.

Thank goodness Kia Pride was manufactured until 2000. It is still posible to get service parts from Europe although shipping is expensive. I have my eye on a bunch of NOS parts from Germany.

As for the cruise sensor, the $5 push-on one was for the Tempo. I will have to start looking for the double threaded one at the bottom of the speedo cables in the junk yards from now on. I wonder what the Ford Taurus had?

I hope the Festiva upper speedometer end will hook up properly, otherwise I will have to get the appropriate Woodruff cutter and use my 90 degree V fixture to cut another groove in the soft aluminum.

            interference

The push-on adapter is 1/2" too long. the left had side of the tach instrument cluster touches the dash, but the right hand side does not. The top of the sensor contacts the bottom of the black insulated front windshield plenum.
Also, I confirmed that a 1/8" Woodruff cut would have to be made in the aluminum neck of the sensor so that the speedometer cable connects properly. The polycarbonate housing would have to cut down by 1/2" and the internal thread extended by the same amount. Talk about tight quarters, All clearances had to be checked with the seat out and lying on my back. The external sensor mounting is looking better all the time. I have to make an executive decision if I want to install the orange 626 Turbo digital cluster with external cruise sensor, or just the standard orange tach cluster with an internal cruise sensor.

I'd prefer the at-the-tranny adapter. Any bit of side loading of the adapter under the dash might result in breaking the the cluster attach point for the speed-o cable. Too much plastic. :-(
BTW thanks for all the effort in pictures, measurements, and plain trial & error you go thru providing reliable information to members.

                imperial!

The thread for the speedo cable is 5/8" - 18.
It is not metric. The thread cannot be extended in the plastic adaptor.
I will get a piece of aluminum and have it machined.
There are two different sized holes on both ends.

Looking for a goot spot to mount the Ford cruise control computer. It's huge.
Hardly any room or any good mounting points under the dash. Hey, wait a minute! Lets take apart that factory computer I don't need, and use the base of it to mount on. Lots of room for the cruise computer. However, not enough room for my Viper computer too. Where can mount that? Hey wait a minute! The dash is symmetrical. I should be able to mount another factory computer base on the other side of the plenum. Uh, oh. The slot is there at the top but they didn't spot weld the extra mounting plate on the plenum (just like on the driver's side). It looks like I need a cordless drill and visit that same Festiva that I took the dash off. I will take a picture when I mount both of them. Cruise on the left. Viper on the right.

The ECU plate just touches the air condenser housing. However, it does fit. Those of you who need to keep their ECU for fuel injection, can mount the cruise computer (or Viper remote lock/security system) on the right side (even with air). I hammered down the lower tangs on the plate so that the wiring harness is not snagged.

Well, I got my cruise cable and ECU in today. So here's what I've got for my cruise control thus far:

I guess I've still got a few more parts I need. The part # on the cable is E9BZ-9A820-B. Does that sound right?

25Horseplay might have a Ford cruise part number listing or know where to get one. Have you figured out how your cruise cable attaches at both ends? Please take pictures of it attached to the back of the speedo as well as the speedo gear down at the transmission. When I Googled the part number I got Speedometer Cable for Mustang. When the eBay auction started, I asked Roger for the part number on the bag, but he never told me what it was. That is why I did not bid. Apparently, the bullet end is supposed to push into the transmission end according to the Mustang article. I think this cable is for Mustangs equiped with VSS (variable speed sensors). There is no where to plug this into a speed control sensor.
