safety guy, it definatly got easier as i went, not really a problem with the fiberglass just the fact i bought spot putty, it dries in like a year it seams, but i got most of it filled, just going to get some body putty to finish up

thanks to both for the comment, im going to be getting some mesh before long

i had the same grill on my 90 festy but i did a different mod to it and it turned out pretty well. i took that stainless gutter mesh and molded it to the inside of the grill and bonded it to the inside of it with construction cement. heres a couple pics of what it did.

you can find it at any hardware store in 4x36 pieces. the ace here in town has them for about $3 apiece so id say it was a pretty inexpensive mod. i also put the same mesh in the hood scoop i added to it later to help the engine cool off better.

Lmcclure, It's looking good though! I think it would look really cool with a mesh behind that, maybe the chrome "Festiva" emblem on it to fill some of the empty space, on the far left or right.

if the car hadnt broken down on me then i had planned on putting some blue LEDs behind the center of the grill so they would shine around the ford emblem and give it some extra detail

this is what i used for the mesh in the grille. i just took the grill off the car and cut out the shape of the inside the grill shape with about an inch and a half extra material around the grill shape and marked in the mesh where the grill shape was and molded the mesh around that shape. once i got it where it needed to be then i attached it the back side of the grill with heavy duty construction adhesive and let it set til it was rock solid.
most hardware stores have these gutter covers in sets but should have them in singles as well. i got mine at ace hardware for $3 but where you are and what store you get it at also makes the price very a bit.

yeah i think the mesh would look awesome with the modded grille and the festiva emblem embedded in it somehow. the emblem should be fairly simple to attach since most emblems iv seen that arent the adhesive type have fasteners that hold them on. if its the fastener type then you can just fasten it thru the mesh but if its the adhesive kind them im not real sure right off hand how to attach it.
something else that would look good would be some LEDs mounted behind the grille so the light from them highlight the mesh and everything else.

you are the man festy 90, i went to sutherlands since it was a little closer, found the mesh, i made a mistake on chopping off the mounting pins on the back of the festiva emblem so i will be using double sided sticky to try and keep it attached, and i did the same as you with the cutting out and folding over....and to the pictures everyone wants..

                              enjoy

Good job! That mesh does look nice. I didn't think I'd like it that much, but I do. Of course, my tastes run towards flat black trim. If I do mesh, it'll probably be blackened.

However, your silver mesh will show up better and have more "visual" impact.
