  • Hey nice job..!

Advancedynamix... the pic of your strut and brake assembly is very interesting..
Have you ever thought of documenting all the parts and machine work that has been done in the strut/ brake mod and offered it for sale?
I'm talking parts list of all the strut/brake stuff and machined dimensions/details in a dxf for sale..? i'd be interested..
    thanks

There is such documentation in this thread already. I have built around 20 sets of this setup for different members here on the forum, and friends, but no longer build these. I was selling them to help offset the cost of my development, but have now moved on to different projects. The suspension mods depicted by me in this thread work magic on a Festiva. I typically charge more than these cars sold for new to tune a suspension like this for someone, and this info I have given freely to help everyone out. Your car can easily out handle a Ferrari F430, Porsche 911, Porsche Cayman, BMW M3, or just about any other exotic car you can think of with this simple advice. Here is proof of that.

This car helped me fill a couple of shelves with trophies, and it was made possible with the exact setup that I have described in this thread. What's even more amazing is the car is easier to drive and more comfortable than stock (aside from the stiff clutch pedal and racing seats).
Also, nothing really special about the brake setup. Stock rear drum brakes, aspire fronts with cheap ebay cross drilled rotors and Performance Friction Pads (not a good street pad) and NA miata master cylinder and brake booster.

        • Taking a short break from building my own cars for a bit to focus on my career and personal life. Still instructing at the track and enjoying driving though. I will build a specifically dedicated track Festiva when I get the itch again. I have 2 more Festy's just waiting their turn

          • You should know that I hold you personally responsible for the ridicule and harresment I receive for my five Festiva collection... :p

Electric starting to show up at all on the track?

            • Yeah, I've seen about a dozen electric road race cars now, but that's a great topic for another thread.

I think this video reinforces what Charlie is talking about. A well prepared front drive hot hatch can keep up with the 'big' guys. Watch the video in this article.

                • I've got a quick question for you Charlie. Way back in post 162 you posted pictures of the rear camber plates you made and then have a quick description for the second set you were currently using on the car. Do have any extra important details or pointers for making set? I'm trying to arrange to get a set made before the spring and am looking for any points or lessons learned to include in the design.

                  Thanks

                  • Here is a picture of them. they are made of steel (these are 4130) and ground to a 3 degree wedge. They are adjustable by rotating them it adjusts toe and camber. They require pressing the stock studs out of the stub axles and drilling them for 7/16" bolts. I'll try to dig up the drawing. I have it somewhere.

                    • Since I never posted pictures of the actual shock shafts being shortened, here is a few on a set I recently did for Gomez. These were Tiens, so they only needed about an inch cut off (which in the grand scheme of things is 2" or more of extra potential body roll).

I cut an inch out of the shafts, about 1/4" from the step that holds the bushing washer. Then, the two pieces were drilled, tapped and chamfered for weld.

joined by a grade 8 1/4-28 set screw and securely tightened together.

Tig welded with ER70s2 filler, making sure to not heat the shafts by the shock seals. I rest the side of my hand on the shaft while feeding the rod to monitor the temp.

The shaft is then force cooled with compressed air for 1 minute and placed in a water bucket for finish cooling. Avoid instant quenching as it may cause imbrittlement issues with the weld.

Advancedynamix - Did Chris ever get his mimic build of your car done? I just started reading this thread today and have wanted to build something like this or have it built since I got my Festiva five years ago.

He took the easy way out and bought my car. lol. Him and his wife love the car so much and they send me pictures of it weekly. I think she drives it more than he does, lol. I would definitely recommend building a car like Tweak. In fact, I miss it so much I'm building another one.
