Checked on it today, couldn't get to it on my 89' auto festiva without removing some stuff under the dash to get to it, so I checked on the dash I had pulled from my 89' MTX parts car (which I would think be the same as 89' ATX) and the plug where the dash harness connects to the main harness was different than the 90-93 one I had pulled from my other parts car. So it looks like you'll probably have to swap that harness also. Hope this helps.

Yep that helps alot! I just went and verified it as well. So it looks like another trip to the junkyard.
          Engine Update:
So the b3 engine is successfully out, old wiring harness out, new in. The new harness still needs to be connected, but it's somewhat in. Hopefully in the next couple of days I get the wiring finished and then onto the engine.
Is there anything I have to do for alignment other than make that custom passanger side mount? (is it a drop in and smile type of alignment?)

            Engine Update:
today I paired the engine with the transmission, and attempted to give the tranny a bit of a clean. I also when through and pulled out all of the interior wiring harness, since I will be replacing it (the curse of the 1989 Festiva's). Hopefully tomorrow I can finish the electrical.

            QUESTION:
The 3 wires going to the fuel pump, which do what on the 1993 Festiva and on the 1989 Festiva? (I want to splice the wires from my 1989 fuel pump into my 1993 wiring harness. Will this work?)

im pretty sure on 93 theres 6 wires going into efi tank 2 green/wht and 2 yellow/grn and then one black and one yellow . black and yellow are signal for fuel gauge the other pairs are for the pump and continue after the pump to inertia switch and one i think yellow/ im not sure on that color goes back to ecu

and on my 88 there was mechanical carb fuel pump only wires going in tank were the black and yellow fuel gauge signal wires

hope this helps grab yourself a haynes manual

If you get yourself a 90-93 fuel pump it'll plug right into the 93 harness you're putting into the car, the pump will bolt right onto the tank so all you have to do is swap pumps.

Ok, well if the 1993 has 6 wires then ya a fuel pump swap will have to work. I will stop by the local parts store to see what they have today. Thanks for the info!

                    Engine not starting

So here is a list of everything that I recently swapped:
I have an 89 Festiva and I swapped in 1993 Festiva wiring harness, and a 1991 bp engine that I had rebuilt myself. The swap is onto an auto tranny.
                    THE PROBLEM:
So Mike and myself put the final touches onto the engine and went to go start it, and when turning the key to the 'on' and 'start' position all it did was make a humming noise from the starter. Any guesses on what the problem is?

                    • K, so troubleshooting, I went and knocked on the starter and the humming became alot less noisy. Could the problem be a faulty starter? (I am using a B3 starter)

                      • It started!!!!!! The engine ran for 15 minutes tonight and tomorrow I am going to take it out for it's first drive! It is such a great feeling having a bp in a Festiva. Oh and it is really loud with open-headers.
