BP Update:got a place to do it!

OK so after a few days of contemplating my options on where I can keep my cars and take out the engines and all out do the swap, I was able to convince my sisters boyfriend to let me use his small garage for a few weeks. So I have to clean it out first in order for him to let me store the bp there so I shall be making a few trips to the dump with the back seat removed from the festy. Soon I'll have that engine out and be able to just stare at it for periods at a time.....lol.

Update: Sold my parts car remnants and can now focus on the actual swap, was preoccupied with getting rid of the car because everyone was giving me a hard time about it, saying it was just gonna bring me trouble with no tags and no title etc etc so I posted it on Craigslist and I had about 6 different people call who wanted to buy the shell and use it in race derbys, anyway gonna take everything worth taking off the car and pull the motor and start working by the end of this week, this is not going to be a swap that goes on for a year with an update every month or so...i promise you that. I will be on my way as soon as I get everything in place. So far I have: All new gaskets + seals, new water pump, new timing belt kit, new spec STAGE 1 clutch , NEW auto festy rad, new kyb gr2s front and back, new cv axles (much stronger and way better handling), new ball joint+lower control arms, new aftermarket air filter + adapter for the MAF, new NGK premium plugs and wires, new cap +rotor. Out of which the axles, the rad have been installed and the transmission fluid was changed while i did the axles. will also do an oil change and filter change prior to installing the bp. So I'll keep you guys informed and shall be taking pictures along the way...

^ should have waited on doing the trans stuff IMO, as it will have to come back out for the swap. It's just 2.6 quarts tho. Make sure to put some axle seals in it while you can too. It will save a headache in the future. Hope this helps. Good luck and keep us posted.

                      Engine Pulling and Cleaning today...

So I am pulling the bp out today, also I was wondering what do most people do to clean out the engines prior to a swap? a pressure washer? just use that engine degreaser stuff at the parts stores? is there a specific process that I can do or do I have to take it somwhere ( icalled a machine shop but they said i would need blah blah blah blah blah done just because of my mileage, knowing nothing about my engine and nothing about its condition or even what kind , so I know they just want my $$) anyway what is your guys' experience with this? should I just pay for my head to be rebuilt?? i just wanted to clean it, i have all new gaskets/seals, and water pump...would I need new valves too?

anyway advice would be much appreciated

I use degreaser and a pressure washer. Sometimes you have to go over it more than one time. I typically soak everything down and let it sit for a few minutes to loosen up the tough stuff. Also, I don't recommend using the degreaser in the aerosol cans because it's basically just pressurized kerosene. Go with something good in a spray bottle like; Super Clean, Purple Power, Greased Lightning, etc. Be carful with the Super Clean, it's strong and will etch paint so try to keep it localized to the engine only.

As far as the valves go I think you'd have to pull a couple and check the valve faces, seats, and guides. You shouldn't need new valves unless you have one that's bent, burnt, or otherwise damaged. A good valve job should clean them up nicely.

If a hammer doesn't fix it you have an electrical problem

I pressure wash it before taking it out. It helps the removal process. Then while it's hanging from the hoist I do it again. Get all the spots you missed while in the car.

As far as cleaning the head. How did it run? If it didn't tick or smoke, I'd replace the outer gaskets and run it. If it were mine. All new gaskets, except head gasket. Install and enjoy

                            Update:Removing The BP...

So I have the bp on the hoist and pulling it, ran into many stubborn bolts and a few unidentified parts that I suppose are ac and power steering related so will not be using for the swap. Here are a few pictures of what we have been up to.

                            pullin the radiator

                            plugs

keepin all the bolts in zip locs

a monkey with a wrench,, but not a monkey wrench

this really came in handy with those stubborn bolts lol

Take a lot of slack out of those chains or that hoist will run out of travel before you get it out, and maybe hit the ceiling.
