  • Block Honed. Ready for rings and re-assembly

Alright so after some deliberation I decided not to take my block to a machine shop for honing and to do it myself , also saved me a good 85 bucks and probably more because any auto/macihne/repair shop will always tell you all the countless other things that you NEED done, and charge you accordingly. So got the right tools and got it done. Measured the cylinder wall and was good so no oversize parts wiill be needed. Here are some pics of the honed walls

    cross-hatch achieved

rings should be here today after work im gonna go work some more on the engine and continue

    • Looking very good it will feel better knowing that you did the work too instead of paying someone else to do it.

      • yea deff. also I know exactly what I did so I dont have to rely on someones word when I infact know nothing what they could have done. I only used a mechanic once and it was at my bosses expense so i didnt pay but since I have learned how to work on stuff myself i have not had the need and will not probably ever.

          • I decided a long time ago I will never pay anybody to work on my car unless I dont have the tools or technology to do it myself. Aligments being one of the few things I cant do myself because I want it dead nuts. Learned how to weld last week and I think I am deffinately buying a welder.

            • getting there.

put the new npr rings on the pistons and got the crank back in the block, installed with assmbly lube and everrything torqued to the proper specifications with a torque wrench. who would have thought? So re-assembly shall continue tonight if I can make it up to frederick to the garage and I will keep posting pictures as I remember to. The way things are going I hope to have the engine ready to go in withina week or two. or less., at some point I am going to pull my heater box and mod it, make sure everything I can do before disabling my car is done basically. I am using the festiva thermostat housing so i will also be using the festiva coolant hose up top. I got a nice flex hose for the bottom that can be used in different diameters, got a bunch of new stuff im sure i mentioned here already and I cant remember everything off hand, also a 180 thermostat coming, replaced all o rings on my fuel injectors, replacing engine gaskets-all of them. new water pump, new spec clutch and plate, new timing belt, all new seals, new valve seals, valves seated, everything cleaned and sandblasted what could be sandblasted, block all honed, painted certain things...new oil filler cap with a shocker lol lots of stuff, oh and whole new 2.25 exhaust system, ahh and i have been installing sound deadening material throughout the entire car , doors covered, much of back covered and under hood will be most important as the new bp will surely be much louder. So all in all id say this has been adequate for replacing a sticky lifter
o also new auto radiator in my car with an aftermarket fan setup, brand new gas tank installed to correct a problem with newr fuel pump, cone air filter already set up on the vaf for the bp...ill stop rambilin im sure ill keep having to edit this as I remember more stuff so ill just let it rest for now!
and much much more non engine related upgrades as well..

                  • painted stuff

ok so i got a set of swoopies and smoothies, the mirrors were not in the best condition so i went to work on them and the seller was awesome enough to send replacement glass as the previous was all smashed up. So now the mirrors are looking good as new after some tlc, bondo and black gloss paint for plastic. In addition, I painted my door trims, all panels and gauge pod which i bonded to the door trim. Next up is installing the gauges, which will be replaced when I have the $ the ones i got were kiind of cheapo. also everything gets finishing coats of protective enamel. Ah and my gf had the idea of swapping over the escort visors which i think looks great with the new scheme, the old beige wasnt cuttin it. So eventually i will be redoing the whole interior but for nowe i cant focus on much except the engine./ updates comin soon.

Is that "duct tape" for sound deadening? Does it work ok?

                      • lol no its not duct tape, its sound deadening material I got from Amazon.com called elemental designs or somethign, same things as dynamat and such. works very well. just with doing the doors and a bit of the back my whole sound system sounds twice as good and the bass is much deeper with more punch. but no its not Duct tape lol
