  • Me too, keeps getting better and better. I dont blame you, those are some nice looking seat covers.
    1992 white L, Bp, American racing 13's, stock trans.
    1991 White L, BP/F5MR, protege header, full aspire swap with gr2's, seats, and sway bar, 15" konig's, short throw, escort console.
    1991 blue L, 5 speed.
    1988 red L-plus-all stock.

    • I'll have to upload the spoiler and tail finisher pics too over the weekend. not installing those till after my fab work is done though. don't want to damage them.

      The momo wheel and orange tach cluster will have to tide y'all over till then

      • Updates!

        Switched to hex head bolts because the carriage ones were junk and threads were messed up.



        Then i bolted everything down and marked out what i had to cut out of the unibody rail to clear the upper control arms.



        a shot of the shock alignment on the miata lower control arm. I had to grind some off the bushing so it would fit in.



        Hey look, rear disk brakes and wheel studs! I'm sure there are easier ways to get them tough lol.



        And i finally set him back on the ground after many months on stands...

        Looks like I need stiffer or longer rear springs now... resting on the "bump stops" aka upper control arm on the frame.

        Looks nice that low though!









        I have to take it back apart this week coming up to paint everything so it doesn't rust. Then I will do the final rear end alignment and hook up the brakes and put in the coilovers. I'll also throw the rear axles and diff in at that time too. Then i can fire him up and turn him around to get the front half going!

          • did a little more tonight, replaced the caliper bolts with the proper length ones (others were just a tad short) and I attached the brake hoses to the rear calipers. I was worried I would not be able to for a while because the banjo bolts I ordered will not ship till the 26th but the ones I pulled from the ZX2 front calipers were the same so I was back in business.

            Also welded in metal where I cut the unibody and I added a little more control arm clearance by folding over the body pinch weld slightly. Now it tucks the tops of the tires when set down.



            for some reason only one pic loaded... oh well you get the idea.

            I am shooting for sub frame and crossmember removal tomorrow in order to prime the bare metal patches and a couple surface rust spots in the back. I'm making a "jig" to bolt in place while the sub frame is out so there is no way the unibody sags on me while the paint and primer dries.

              • ^^ easy part... riiight. It's not done yet. I have to tear it down again, clean it up, prime and paint, then re-assemble and final align the rear end. Then I can switch to the front.

                  • I had to mutilate my subframe and notch the frame a bit, so I'm curious to see how it will fit too. Git to it :p

                    • Well the best part about the festivii and aspires is that they do not have front sub frames. I'm hoping to get away with minimal "mutilation" up front. I will be adding two sub frames similar to what the 4WD Protege has and I will be connecting them with an additional cross member for added chassis strength. I will also be building in sway bar mounts to run and escort front sway bar and I will be building in mounts for the BG chassis control arms I am planning on running. If I have to do a lot of cutting to get the trans to fit I will be altering the floor pan slightly so I will have an easier time fitting the catalytic converter in there. (it will be gutted of course but I have to have something visual for inspection).

                      • re-assembled my rear differential using this as a guide:



                        +1 mechanical technical level! LOL seriously did learn a bit about setting pre-load and backlash though. It will come in handy over the winter when i swap in an LSD. Putting my time and $$ into more essential things for the moment though.

                        Also picked up a set of lug nuts and some stuff to do the brake lines.

                        • Well... the power plant for the festiva swap is all set now. I will be pulling out the BP and the GTX trans and putting the protege back to stock with a low miles B8 and the OEM 4wd transmission. I hate to return something to stock but its for the better good of my other project. The festiva will rock a BP+T AWD 5 speed!

                          A little rundown on my turbo setup that I have been collecting:

                          BP26 Exhaust Manifold with a T3 flange welded on, and ext. WG flange
                          Familia GTR Intake with GTR throttle body
                          Garret T3 60 Trim off an SVO Mustang
                          550cc RX7 Injectors (high impiedence)
                          Knockoff 38mm Waste-gate (10 psi spring for now)
                          Bosh Bypass Valve good for 10 psi (off a Volvo)
                          -3 AN oil feed setup for the block to turbo
                          5/8" oil drain back with push in -10 AN fittings (I think that is the size)
                          MSII plug and play unit I built for engine management
                          Stripped down BP harness with just the essentials for MS
                          2.5" exhaust planned, going to try and cram in a 3" setup but i doubt I'll have room.
                          Civic half radiator and slim flan for cooling. I think i want to go triple core if i can find one reasonably priced.

                          I am waiting to get the intercooler and piping until after I know what I can fit in the front end after the engine, manifold, turbo, mounts, and radiator are in place.

                            • good tip! I need to find out if i can weld stainless as is or if i have to get different equipment or pay someone. I'd like to go full stainless if i can.
