Got the sub frame sheet metal cover all mocked up with Posterboard, at least for the time being.



I have to tweak the portion nearest the seat on the sub frame some now. I flipped the seat down to latch it and it interfered with the sub frame. Since my goal is to keep the back seat and have it look as near to stock as possible, the sub frame will need some clearancing and I will have to modify the sheet metal slightly. No big deal though, just glad the sheet metal wasn't already welded in.

Took a few mins to measure it up and sketch it out in Autocad:



Should be able to get it laser cut and have the bend lines etched. Then I'll see about bending it up at work the proper way. (I shudder to think about doing something the proper way!)

hooookay... so...

I was checking on my rear seat dimensions and modified the sub frame to clear the seat. Then i modified the floor pan templet to match.





Then I added another 6 inches to the back side of the autocad sketch so I only have to cut one major piece of sheet metal to do the whole rear floor pan.



I will set it up so I can screw it in place with seals in between so I can transfer it to another vehicle should anything unfortunate happen.

I can't wait to get this going. I'm probably going to lay it all out before hand and just pend up the major portions at work and do the complex stuff the same way I have made up patch panels in the past... couple pieces of plate, few C clamps, and a dead blow hammer to get a nice crisp bend.

so i started laying it out in the sheet metal so i can cut it up and start bending!

hoookay so I got it cut out (had to use my angle grinder with some angle steel as a guide)



Got most of it bent up, had a hell of a time with the larger bends...



Ended up cutting off the large areas, I'm going to have them bent at work and then just weld them in. I couldn't do it cleanly at all so more welding will have to do it.



All in all it was a pretty decent experience though. Everything fit the sub frame just fine, but I had to clearance a few things differently so I could still set it in place.

So I had one piece bent up today and I got over to the garage to weld it up.

Trusty magnets holding it in place:



And welded and welds cleaned up via a flap wheel:



also... I think flap wheels are my new favorite angle grinder attachment! Where have they been all my life??

Sub Frame back in place:



The two pieces seen in the next pics will be welded directly to the floor. I tried welding them to the sub frame but then I could not get it to maneuver back into the car.





Tomorrow should consist of me welding the unibody back to the floor pan where I cut out the floor section. (had to remove the overlapped area for clearance) While I'm in there I plan on welding down the two flat sections and I want to try and mark out where I have to cut the unibody so the upper control arms will be able to travel.

welded the body back together and welded down the two plates.



I also picked up the last of the steel I'll need for the trunk floor. Just need time to work on it. Probably won't work on it again till Sunday.
