This is about the closest pic i could find without taking a fresh one..... basically the bolt you see in the pic right beside the fuse block now holds my fuse block, it's slightly awkward to reach the fuses through that oval hole, but it's possible at least lol

    I think I understand, that's a good idea.

When I tucked my wiring behind the fender, I mounted the fuse block close to front so I can use that oval hole to reach my hand through to get to the fuses, makes it easier then pulling a fender

I'll see if I have a pic somewhere

Got the motor and tranny out. Spent most of the time plowing the yard from the snow we got this weekend and working on the wire tuck. Went through all the electrical tape I could find (2 rolls) and had to stop. Had to lengthen a couple of wires, but for the most part it is going very smoothly. I am mounting most of the stuff behind the fender, so to replace any of the three main fuses or the relays, I will have to remove the fender. This shouldn't be an issue as this stuff shouldn't need to be checked that often.

One of the mounts broke well we were taking the engine out. Good to know now rather than later. Looks like I need a better welder. I was wondering about that mount anyway.

Still debating on where to put the battery. I was thinking either the passenger side where the stock airbox was, or in the trunk.

I missed that. Thanks alot for the link!

Will have to see how it goes tomorrow. Sounds like I will get some help from the guy I helped last weekend. We put the aspire motor in his festiva. I gave him the motor, so he feels like he owes me; it is nice to have the extra hand.

Discuss making performance enhancements to the OEM-spec engine in your Festiva or Aspire.

    You see this noname?

Being work on the festiva a little bit every weekend when I can. Finally had most of today to work on it. Got it running and it was missing pretty bad and sounded awful. Figured I would do a compression check since it was a junkyard motor and it didn't know the history. 210-110-140-140. Not good. Cylinder 2 was rusty looking on the inside too, so it might have blown a headgasket. Anyway, I have another BP, so I am going to swap that in now instead. While I have the motor out I will cleaning up the wiring harness. I got it hacked together to get the car to run, but unacceptable for longtime use. Pictures to follow also as I rebuild my mounts. Didn't like the way the first set turned out.

It was a thought going into this swap. After building the mounts I can understand why people do not make mounts for others. I will look into getting better built mounts that will be a bolt in affair to help others. Right now, I wouldn't want to sell the mounts I have out of embarrassment of my poor welding skills.

I was not able to work on the festiva this past weekend, but the previous weekend I did get the passenger mount finished, and the motor and tranny are mounted in the engine bay. The wiring is almost finished and the radiator is resting in place. Next will be the radiator hoses and finishing the wiring. The intermediate shaft has been modified as well, also not pretty. I think I need a different welder: this wire feed welder is only good for so much.

I did have to place the tranny farther to the drivers side than most other swap I have been seeing due to the damage to the passenger frame rail. I cut into the driver's side frame rail and will look into reinforcing the cut out area at a later date. Goal right now is to get everything in and running. Will also look at redoing the mounts a later date also, something better looking and easier to duplicate.

Looks great! Good way to start is with a clean engine bay. When you are putting in the BP engine there is not much room to play around with when making mounts.

Keep taking pictures as you go along.
